For me it's a cop out and an undeserving driver getting a prime seat. My only hope is that then new regs shake up F1 enough to remove Mercedes dominance.

Good moves, all. I feel that Hamilton and Bottas will work well together. We shall see.

Disagree completely, I think Bottas is exactly the right driver for Mercedes... he persistently beat Massa in the Williams, his only real limitation was the car itself, so I think he will make a good go of it. The only concern would be if Lewis wipes the floor with him, as it will likely destroy his career. You never know though, it could it could be the other way around (although I think unlikely).

I predict exactly that. I don't think he's fast enough or sufficiently assertive. I expect he's been hired as a number 2 driver anyway, so is unlikely to be allowed to race even if I'm wrong. For the last 3 years, all you needed to do to be F1 champion was to beat your team mate. If this obstacle has been removed, what's the point of even bothering with an F1 season? Unless the rule changes create more competition, it will be a big turn-off for F1 IMO. Surely there needs to be some competition in any sport.

Yes, I shall celebrate seeing the back of him. 2016 was full of disappointments, this at least is one that is inevitable for 2017.

It is certainly time for Bernie to move on... Liberty Media will hopefully appoint a series of people that can take F1 to the next level.

There's a rumor going about that Bernie is trying to put together a rival series. He's 86 or something - time to retire and enjoy the profits!!

Bernie out and Ross Brawn back. Double good news! And Ron Dennis gone from McLaren, Pat Symonds gone from Williams, Fred Vasseur leaving Renault, Paddy Lowe leaving Mercedes, on top of James Allison leaving Ferrari last season.... All change at the top!

I'm not sure what Paddy Lowe will bring to Williams. Overrated?

The new Mercedes has been previewed today. It does look good. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/39063786Yes indeed, looks great, got me pretty excited when i saw this on the net earlier today. I'm really looking forward to the new season. I reckon Hamilton will be right up for it, he always is.

Good looking car and Lewis seems so up for it this year, more so than last year I'd say

I was at the Hostoric Motorsport International show @ the Excel centre in London yesterday. Now there was a fine collection of great looking cars! And some very interesting ex-drivers in attendance too. I just hope that today's cars will still be race worthy in 10, 20, 30 or 40 years time!

Testing has been going on. Early days. Ferrari topped the time sheets a fraction ahead of Merc. The rest were well of that pace. Could be due to fuel load etc.. McLaren had a torrid time. The Honda unit not allowing many laps for either driver..
Higher corner speeds and slower down the straights are the result of more down force. Some have concerns this will mean overtaking is even harder. Verstappen felt he could follow other cars without any problem. Adrian Newey drawing board magic perhaps?
Tyre deg is much better than last years fragile things and we can expect drivers to be able to race more, manage less, and more one stop races.
