Verstappen for me, fantastic battle between him and vettel. Riccardio had the legs on everthing up to the force indias, and hulkenberg really deserves some credit. Verstappen is a world champion in waiting

Yes, I forgot The Hulk who did some great driving yesterday. He is really showing up Palmer, although the latter has had a run of bad luck.

Actually the comments made by one of the Sky presenters at the last race about Riccardio's race craft, who said he is one if not the best out there in this area. he seems to have an ability to leave his breaking later than virtually all drivers and position his car perfectly.
Similarly, Verstappen is excellent at defending his position, as seen at Silverstone.
I hope both are able to go onto be World Champions.

I read yesterday that Palmer has burnt his "unlucky" underpants. I keep wondering if he had ever bothered to wash it in between races.

With Kubica in the sidelines and Hulkenberg racing well, his days are numbered anyway.

I agree, I suspect that Palmer will lose his drive before the end of this season which in my view will be a good thing.

Halo is in from 2018. I don't mind at all. Wish Surtees junior had had a halo device.
I didn't feel safe racing my Caterham without a full roll cage!

Sorry but I disagree, IMHO it is a rushed effort to get something out. The cars are pretty damn safe now, what is it, 3 deaths in the past 23 years, which is very low and that includes Jules' accident which was down to a complete lack of luck and the weather and a rather large crane.
These drivers know that when they get in an F1 car they are putting their lives at risk and that is part of the excitement of the series. I think they are making it too safe now. As Martin Brundle once said, what's next, a driver less car??
I read somewhere that the powers that be aren't sure the Halo would actually prevent the sort of accident that killed Surtees junior.

Seems you are not really with it.. www.f1fanatic.co.uk/2017/07/19/formula-one-cars-will-fitted-halo-2018/As with all safely nothing is perfect but it'll be better. It's not you're neck on the line either..

I don't quite understand why I am not with it, Steve, seems a strange statement.
Obviously I am aware that the Halo device will definitely be implemented next year as the FIA have stipulated, but I think they have rushed out something without following sufficient testing and it may come back to bite them.
My point is more that the sport is getting too safe, the whole point of driving around in a open topped racing car is these drivers are Gladiators driving at the pinnacle, and getting paid richly to put their lives at risk.
Neck on the line or not, doesn't change my opinion.

The teams are largely not in favour.

The teams are largely not in favour. Like the circuit owners in the past. Had to be dragged kicking and screaming. I just don't get the "their bring paid to do it, they know the risks, even if it kills them".

That is where we clearly differ Steve, F1 drivers chose to take the risks driving at 200+ mps, if they are hurt or die as a consequence, they knew the risk.
It's rather like you or I doing a track day, we know that there is a risk (however small) that we might get injured or killed doing it, but that wouldn't put me off doing it, would it you?
The only difference is that they get paid a lot of money to take that risk.

There can be risk in many things. Minimising the risk is a natural part of the human way. Motorsport used to be a professional blood sport, as Steve McQueen's lines put it put it. I'd like to think we've moved on from that time and way of accepting seeing drivers die in front of us on our TV screens or whilst we attend events. You'd happily accept Lewis or Sebastian dieing as you watch, because they are paid? Set minds take time to change, some just need to disappear from relevance. I think we are seeing that change here and now. Halo might not be the ultimate protection and no doubt it will evolve, but it's the best that has been developed so far. Next time a car flips and skids upside down along the armco, or Grosjean is careering across cockpit of another innocent driver's car, think, should that driver, perhaps your favourite driver, die that day because you think they are paid adequately for it!

Minimise the risks as much as possible in all and any sport, life even.
I was gutted when Jimmy Clark was killed. I went right off F1 after that. RIP Jimmy

If I I said Jolyon Palmer, what's the first thing that springs to mind that he might have done this time?

Great race for Raikkonen today, just a pity the team wouldn't allow him past The cry baby.
Lewis showed he's a better man than Vettel by giving the place back to Bottas, thus keeping to the earlier agreement.
