From Slipped Disc -
< The Grand Final of the Eurovision Young Musician of the Year will be broadcast tonight on the following channels: Albania / RTSH 1 Belgium / RTBF – La Trois Croatia / HRT – HTV 3 Czech Republic / Czech TV – CT Art Greece / ERT 2 Hungary / MTVA – M5 Malta / PBS Ltd. – TVM 2 Norway / NRK 2 Poland / TVP Kultura Russia / Russia Kultura Slovenia / RTV 1 UK / BBC 2 but only in Scotland (2000 BST)
New talent is clearly of no interest to BBC nationally. >
Exactly what I was saying - you can watch the final in Albania but not in England, Ireland or Wales.
A very poor show, should be on BBC FOUR, pull your digit out guys!!
Ironically I might be able to watch it tonight in Greece!

Well, well, well. Another state of the art concert hall opens outside of the UK. Quelle surprise, not! Moscow is the beneficiary this time. Really it makes me crazy that with all our fine orchestras we can't produce something like this for them and us ...

London's best concert hall was built for the 1950 Festival of Britain.
Only Birmingham has received a fine concert hall since then.
Says it all, really. Where is the National Lottery funding?

Watch all of the Eurovision Young Musician performances here! youngmusicians.tv/story/relive-2018-finalI missed the first performance due to the show starting half an hour earlier than scheduled. But it was a most interesting evening with some lovely music. I do recommend a listen and see if you agree with the judges. Personally I think they were duped and got it completely wrong but thought they might ... But I thought I did see a possible star of the future there. I will try and write up my thoughts when time allows.

Too much funding for opera.
Anyway, this is all for existing institutions.

This is fun - early footage of Argerich and Dutoit mucking around ...

I'm much the same, Jules. I've got plenty of examples of his conducting but the only complete work of his I own is West Side Story.

I love West Side Story! I feel almost 'obliged' though to explore some of his classical compositions ...

I was listening to the news about it this morning. It would be easy for me to say just listen to the music and keep the politics out of it. However, I'm not a Jew and certainly do not have an understanding of what it must have been like to be caught up in the Holocaust. I can therefore see both sides of the argument.

It's both sad, and disgusting. I can say no more without involving the politics and the politicians involved, and my already stated views on both.

Gosh, it just adds to my thoughts about Brexit but best to move it to Frequent Flyers' Club for further discussion.

Interesting to see that Charles Dutoit has managed to get a new position - 'Principal Guest Conductor of the St.Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra'

Indeed, but the wide range of accusations were sadly more than infidelities ...
