I'm not sure if it counts as 'news' or not, but Amazon currently have... Hilary Hahn - The Complete Sony Recordings, a 5 CD box set, for £12.99. Kathryn Stott - The Complete Solo Recordings, a 9 CD box set for £7.53. Arthur Rubinstein Plays Great Piano Concertos, an 11 CD box set for £13.42 The first is under the Sony banner and the second two are RCA Red Seal labels. There are more in what appears to be a series, such as a 7 CD Colin Davis Sibelius set and a 12 CD set of Eugene Ormandy conducting Tchaikovsky. Oviously there are some 'older' recordings there, but the Hahn is DDD and is listed as '24 high resolution audio.' Worth a dabble methinks. As a total aside, I'm not sure what it says about me personally, but I'm sitting here writing about interesting classical releases while watching Robin Trower, Skynyrd, Tom Petty and now AC/DC on the telly.

Classical and rock are often merged in my brain, too.
Shame there isn't a Colin Davis Berlioz set as he really was a great Berlioz conductor.

I'm only surprised it hasn't happened before now, Jules.

Absolutely - I don't think they even do one for Young Musician!

Absolutely - I don't think they even do one for Young Musician! That is crying out for a compilation featuring the finalists at least. Ideally, a 2CD set featuring all three final performances (approx 75 minutes this year) and a selection from the runners-up. I'm sure the BBC could turn a profit on it, as they would 'own' all of the performances, and it would give more exposure to musicians who might not otherwise get it.

I would have thought it a complete no brainer - just look at the careers many of the winners go on to have! Would be great if they did a direct-to-disc vinyl cut of the final ...

Would be great if they did a direct-to-disc vinyl cut of the final ... I doubt that the BBC have any engineers left with that kind of know-how.

Not a problem as the BBC ceased doing everything in house many years ago ...

I heard all about that on BBC R4 last week. It was an incredibly selfish thing to do.

Now this is a fascinating and wide-ranging read - an extended interview with Russian pianist Denis Matsuev. Some very direct questions indeed! tass.com/society/967293

Thanks for that, Jules, I'm glad to see Sir Granville may, at last, be receiving the recognition he deserves. A lot of his work is available on the Hyperion label, and the orchestral pieces are performed by Vernon Handley/RPO

hmmm - Nigel Kennedy plays Bach concert at the Barbican has been cancelled for later this year. I can't say I'm devastated - just thought it sounded intriguing as to how he would approach it.
