This is cool. Samuel Marino is a male soprano who is soon to be releasing his debut with Decca - "Arias by Gluck and Mozart, more commonly performed by female voices in the centuries since castration was banned, are recorded by a male soprano voice for the first time ever." Here is an older YT clip - he is obviously very talented.

This is taken from his new album - quite superb, what a voice!

Oh dear - DG are really getting on my nerves again.
The new Nelsons Strauss album releases YET ANOTHER "single" - I refuse to listen to any of it until the album drops. Just ludicrous and irritating marketing. It's not a pop album.
Talking of marketing, the latest Hilary Hahn EP is called 'Rest'. Really DG?? How on earth does HH agree to this dilution of her talent with another tepidly titled DG concept affair which looks like it was dreamt up by a child. Get a grip guys.

This application of 'celebrity' marketing doesn't sit well with classical music.

A sad day for music indeed.
Two great pianists have passed away - Radu Lupu and Nicholas Angelich.

Oh, Radu Lupu's passing makes me very sad. How lucky I was to see him relatively recently.
I shall listen to some of his recordings again. The Grieg is simply sublime.

You missed Sir Harrison Birtwistle, jules. ObituaryComposer renowned as a great modernist whose music is imbued with stubborn power and a sense of unreachable mystery.

This looks fantastic - I'm going! www.royalalberthall.com/tickets/events/2022/anam-quartetthaus/"The Royal Albert Hall hosts its first pop-up performance space this September. An immersive chamber music venue commissioned by the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM), ANAM Quartetthaus will stand in 1851 Place outside the Hall for ten days, hosting six performances per day. The ANAM Quartetthaus will feature six quartets: three from Australia and three from the UK playing varied repertoire from each country including two new works commissioned specially for the series. The structure hosts 52 seats, in two circles around a slowly revolving stage, no member of the audience is more than two metres from the performers. The proximity to the performers makes for a visceral and unique live music experience. ANAM Quartetthaus is a space that breaks down the performer/audience divide, enabling a truly shared experience. This will be the first time the project has been outside of Australia."

I was saddened to hear that Anna Netrebko needed replacing, too. I've got a couple of her albums, including "Duets" with Rolando Villazón and "Souvenirs" where she veers pleasingly off the (well) beaten path for her choices of songs. She has a fabulous voice..
Wikipedia was quickly off trhe mark with her bio though, which is now mostly in the past tense. eg. a Russian operatic soprano who had an active international career and performed prominently at the Salzburg Festival, Metropolitan Opera, Vienna State Opera, and The Royal Opera.
In 2022, following the start of the Russo-Ukrainian War she stated she would retire from concert life but later announced plans to resume her performances from May 2022.
As the part of 2022 boycott of Russia and Belarus, her performances and appearances with the Bavarian State Opera and Metropolitan Opera were canceled when the organizers accused her of refusing to publicly distance herself from Vladimir Putin during the Russo-Ukrainian War. In her statement condemning the war, she said, "I am not a member of any political party nor am I allied with any leader of Russia.... In fact, I have met President Putin only a handful of times in my entire life".
Such a pity.

She was THE name in opera at one time, I remember.
Her Carmen is fabulous.

I have no sympathy for Netrebko in the least. Her previous utterances and explicit support for Putin's geopolitical ambitions are well documented. Her weasely and opportunistic statement was only released very late in the day when she realised her international career was going down the pan ... I'll reserve my sympathy for those Russian musicians 'cancelled' just for being Russian.

I have little or no sympathy for Putin supporters; my sympathy is with the people who won't be hearing her voice.

I could have posted this dreck in "What Made Me Laugh Today."
“Abu Dhabi Festival is thrilled to present an outstanding Emirati composer, Mohammed Fairouz, whose Symphony #5 celebrates the life and vision of Sheikh Zayed, the United Arab Emirates’ founding father. Sheikh Zayed shaped our nation and imparted upon us a spirit of tolerance and peace. We are delighted to be working again with the London Symphony Orchestra on this world premiere event conducted by Maestro Lee Reynolds."
Tolerance and peace? Hmm ... where does one begin?
I think it's a real shame that the LSO have agreed to do this gig.

"Sheikh Zayed shaped our nation and imparted upon us a spirit of tolerance and peace," said a spokeman from deep inside Sheikh Zayed's rectum.
