Nice. I've always liked that label and it's good to know that it goes more than skin deep.

St Martin in the Fields are a wonderful organisation and have just had to close their doors for the first time. Quite apart from their superb free and ticketed classical concerts, they do a great deal of work in the community for vulnerable and homeless people. If like me you would like to make a donation to help them continue this work, you can do so here - www.stmartin-in-the-fields.org/

Agree about their community vibe Unfortunately a few churches are in a similar position that do great community work I worked closely with the Host cafe helping people into paid employment who had a learning disability or Autism hostcafelondon.com/

Agreed there are many worthy causes - I have had so much pleasure from St Martins over the years that it was an easy choice for me.

I read that Bavaria has doubled state subsidies for the arts.
‘Bavaria is a country of culture,’ said Söder. ‘We live with and from culture.’
Can you ever imagine that happening here? No, sadly.

I've just heard that the Southbank Centre is continuing to close its doors for the rest of the year!
Must be a huge shortfall in revenue. I would like to know what their plans are for reopening.

Excellent news!
I have just retuned my TV and now have Sky Arts on Freeview. Looking forward to having an alternative to BBC Four.
It's available now on Freeview and Freesat on channel numbers 11 and 147.

Sky Arts?
What a bag of unmitigated festering shite.
Just as well it's on Freeview - you wouldn't want to pay for this absolutely shameful dreck.
So over the next two days I can see some Opera on at 6am and that's your lot in terms of classical music!!!
How on earth can classical be so poorly represented on what is humourously called an 'Arts' channel? However if you like 'Tales of the Unexpected' you will be well catered for. You couldn't make it up.
I'd love to hear their Commissioning Editor defend their pathetic schedule. Obviously Sky don't believe in it as a viable proposition as the budget must be something like 99p and a packet of crisps.

It seems to be almost all third party material, very little commissioned themselves. Even so, they could do better.
