I'm still a trifle confused. If I send my killer 5 Mantovani and the recipient is less than enamored (a highly unlikely scenario it has to be said, of course). Do I reimburse them and have me Mantovani returned and just keep their Nana Mouskouri? Anyone up for a Garibaldi & Chocolate Covered Malted Milk exchange? I think it is reasonably self explanatory, but then again I would as it is my idea Using your example, if you were to sell your killer 5 Mantovani and the recipient wasn't happy, they could chose to dispose of them, sell them, given them away. If they were happy they likely want to keep them. Part of the process will be that there will be no monies returned, and we will get some people that like the albums they receive and some that are less enamored, but it is a way of getting a selection of music you wouldn't necessarily have heard before for a limited amount of cost per time (£30-50 or less dependent on agreement with your swap partner). Hope that helps explain a bit further

Yeh me too, penny aint dropped but it all looks a bit like hard work I guess it is like any new idea, when you first implement it there are teething problems and it can be hard work, but once it has been up and running for a while things become easier

Isnt it easier to just buy a CD from Amazon, after all they virtually give the things away these days.

Not quite so cheap these days because of the closure of the Channel Island tax loophole.

Someone has pointed out to me that the cost of £50 for the swap may to some be seen as somewhat excessive. Sorry if that has worried some of you. I would be happy to start as £10 or £20 as a base figure and then the different people could chose if they wanted to invest more. Like Rare Bird says above, you can buy quite a few £0.01 CDs from Amazon for a tenner Additionally, there is no problem with asking your swap partner to buy a specific album if you preferred. I was just trying to give everyone an option by mixing it up a bit

Can i ask what will happen with all the CD's you guy have when CD players become obsolete & your own personal player has packed up? After all you are so picky about a CD player synergy within your systems & all that, be near on impossible finding another wone it?

We'll be sending them to Rotherham - there's a big mountain there made up of stuff you've slung out!

How about a twist on the original idea. - We establish a list of who is taking part and everyone buys one CD.
- Each person sends the disc to the next person on the list and the last person sends his to the first.
- Everyone listens to and reviews the CD they have recieved and then after a week, they send it on to the next person on the list.
- We keep going until everyone has tried it.
This way, everyone gets to play a selection of music chosen by people with different tastes, no-one has spent too much cash and if you don't like it, you're not stuck with it. You are not tied to one person and a lot of people can be involved at a much lower cost. Once the circle has been completed, you get your CD back. If you want to keep it, then do so. If not, then offer it to the group members. What does everyone think?

It would be fine, as long as there's no Coldplay or Snorah Jones, and everyone's OK with the prospect of receiving some "out there" hardcore atonal jazz.

The prospect of the odd 'out there' is what I find appealing. But not 50 quids worth!

I've just ordered something featuring Stanley Clarke, Lenny White & Hiromi for £8.16 - OK, it will be a week or so before it turns up, but it's nice when it does turn up.

The prospect of receiving a boxful of weirdo experimental jazzy crap CDs fills me with horror. Or even a single CD. Just post the title on TAS, I'll give it a 3 second blast on Spotify and then give up in disgust. Sorted. ___ And doesn't the idea of doing a round-robin with a CD fail the copyright law trap after the first pass-on?

It's to be applauded that Paul is trying to get a scheme off the ground. Widening your listening is often most rewarding when someone plays you something else they discovered. Sadly I'm too far off the grid to take part. Anything posted to or from here usually only ends up two ways: Trashed or stolen. Maybe those able to use UK,post could start with a CD Secret Santa. Just an idea to get something going.

I'm much more for this idea, Paul. Minimal outlay, maximum music to try out. I don't think there is copyright violation unless someone rips the CD, which is a no-no?

I don't think there is copyright violation unless someone rips the CD, which is a no-no? Ah. That's what I originally thought. Then what was the objection to my classical CD loaner/charity donation scheme?

I don't think there is a problem with what you suggested Jerry. Paul may have been misunderstanding the copyright?

Then what was the objection to my classical CD loaner/charity donation scheme? Hi Jerry, it appears I misunderstood the copyright aspects. As long as nobody copies or imports (into a Music Service for instance) the CD's you lend them, then there is no issue as the copyright remains with the CD.

Great, Let's begin to put together a list of those people interested in participating. So who is up for joining in on this revised idea?
