Here's my 'blank canvas'. Looking to the 'rear' of the room with the patio/barn doors... Looking to the 'front' of the room, where the sparky will fit the 60A radial circuit. Despite the photo, the room is rectangular with the wall on the right being the long wall.

Thanks, David. No I don't have that book. The difficulty I have with any side positioning of the system is that I don't have the speaker cable lengths required for it. I will post you the book on Monday, I bought 7 metre speaker cables and I will never go back to the system in the middle now. As regards needing longer cables and your endless cable swapping (no offence intended of course) less expensive cables are out there one day you will find the RIGHT ONES, whatever you have now are just a stepping stone. Read the book I urge you before assembling your gear.

your endless cable swapping LOL - Hardly anything has changed this year. I'm done with cables for now, having found exactly what works well. Yes, I will read the book. However, the reality is that the system will logistically have to go in the middle. That is where it has always been ever since I first had one!

Looks very light and open (possibly due to being so empty at the moment)... nice space for your music enjoyment

Lots of rugs and drapes to come or might furniture deaden it a bit ?

Looks to be a great room, Martin. A lovely size too. I hate rugs myself, but my recent experience suggests you may need some. Acoustic treatments of walls did very little, corners were a bit more fruitful. Stopping floor reflections seems to be far more fruitful. For me it's too bloody hot to have rugs down for at least 9 months of the year. At least you don't have that problem.
Good luck with it all. At least you aren't planing to move again so every investment you make will be a lifetime one.

The empty room is very live and echo-y so it's going to need the full treatment. Big rug, drapes for sure. Then the TubeTraps, PicturePanels and furniture. It should end up pretty dead. Power supply comes in next Thursday.

I know it may sound daft, but I always find rooms without coving do sound more lively that the rooms with. I'm having a wee refurb here and just put thick, plaster coving up. Made a nice difference. Bonkers I know, but we know how echoes love corners.

It's surprising how much sofas absorb. I would try it with furnishings first and take room treatment from there. I have also been surprised in my room that I don't feel a need to draw the curtains. That may be because I can't face shutting out the view.

I think I like a less live room than is preferred by many. Not exactly anechoic chamber, but I like the speakers to do the talking, not the room.
Interesting about the coving, James. I know what you mean, Richard, but I shall be forgoing the view while listening.

I'm not sure I buy into it yet - but if anyone is starting a statistically valid sample,
score 1 for coving chez Pinkie.
I haven't destruction tested it - but I am pretty happy with the room here in Granes. And it has coving!!
(It also has at least 100mm of insulation under the floor, over the ceiling, and behind every wall)
Have you ever heard music in an anechoic chamber Martin?

Ah yes, the perfect room to just kick back and relax in. i've been in one of these rooms, as a business we quoted to change all the doors at B&W for fire rated doors in their Maidstone factory. Very interesting to see what goes on in the background, and I've never seen so much expensive kit just lying around .
