I have a problem with my LKS DAC. All four S/PDIF inputs generate no music (I get a clock lock but no output). The USB input works fine. Possible failures are a power rail to the S/PDIF circuitry, master clock failure, coupling cap failure. It's a drag and I'm using the USB input without the Mutec reclocker for now. Sound quality is down but I still have music.

Oh no. It's not a return-it-to-China repair?

No, I'm going to take another look and then get it to Tony for repair.
I wouldn't return it to China. If it came to it, I would order another motherboard from them rather than return the whole thing.

My LKS is sick but I still have music. The USB interface turns out to be the Amanero Combo384 despite my having ordered the basic one as I didn't need it! Well, thank you very much as it turns out the Amanero is as good as its reputation. Having its own low phase clock on board plus the rest of the DAC working as normal means I still have pretty decent music. There is no reclocking but still it turns in a good performance. Furthermore, John mentioned about pulling his anti-jitter devices from his Asus after using a grounding box. I tried the same thing and the high frequencies are improved. I guess shorting USB noise to ground together with using a USB grounding box causes them to work against each other.

... Furthermore, John mentioned about pulling his anti-jitter devices from his Asus ... Ooooo, nasty. What were they doing there anyway? Oh, wait -- I see what you mean.

Agree they seem to work against each other

No Tom, unfortunately the Mutec doesn't have USB out, just every flavour of S/PDIF.
The Oehlbach reclocker does USB in/out.

The records have gone. I shed a tear for the time, effort and money I invested in that collection over the years.
However, onwards and upwards. Two new IKEA pieces of furniture have been ordered to finally allow me to store all my accessories away neatly. I have framed my very first two records ever purchased and they will go up on the wall.

Well done Martin. Although I'm not using vinyl at all, I can't quite get rid just yet. Time, effort and money are the words but what's the point in having a 'museum'?

Woh! Big news! Did you sell them all as a batch to a dealer? What were the two that you saved?

Thanks for asking! Yes, I sold the collection as a job lot, which saves me years of effort in splitting it up and selling them all separately.
My very first two albums, now framed, bought when I was around 14 or 15:
Simon and Garfunkel - Bridge Over Troubled Waters Vivaldi - Four Seasons, Marriner, ASMF, Argo

Oof! Wish I could have had a look through them first - it seems rare that second hand records come from an owner who knew how to look after them. The dealer must have been delighted! This one for the Vivaldi? Nice one to have on the wall!

That's the one - before it transferred to the Decca label. Lovely performance, it won a number of awards at the time.

Hmm, I must admit that I got rid of my LPs without a qualm, just ensuring that I had anything "essential" in my CD collection which I keep as a backup to streaming. I don't seem to be emotionally attached to 'things'. They come, they go. They don't really matter.
