Well, knock me over with a feather. Once again I've been caught out by the SGS grounding box taking an eon to adapt to a new connection. This evening, the small one is doing something awesome with my router and my system has come on song like never before. So tight and rhythmically slammy, this is a new high. Everything I've played so far: Primal Scream, Yello, Jean-Michel Jarre, Bert Kaempfert, Dire Straits, Dead Can Dance, all sound stunning.
Either someone has put something in my coffee today or all the hard work is paying off. I'm going for the latter. Hand me my crayons, I've some more listening to do...

The QP-1 is most definitely blue pill!

With the grounding boxes (I have the SGS Sig) is there any dis/advantage attaching them to equipment ground posts rather than input/output sockets? My preamp has one.

I think the only answer is to try both. I've stuck with input/output sockets as neither my preamp nor DAC have a grounding post. The latter may be connected to mains earth and it's the signal ground you really want, so I suspect the grounding post may not be as good.
Remember to give it a day after changing connections!

Jerry The ground post on your preamp may be for CHASSIS ground, as opposed to SIGNAL ground on the input/output RCA phono sockets. It is not considered a good idea, to mix the two on a single grounding box! If you intend to go for one or the other, then that should be fine.

Thanks Steve and Martin.
As it turns out, a new DAC/pre has arrived today which may well make the pre with the ground post redundant anyway!

I received the cotton covered solid core copper wire today, together with a replacement 5.5/2.1 DC plug. I made up a new end to the cable for my 12V linear power supply, soldering the plug on but also a length of flying grounding wire to the -ve side. I finished it all in heatshrink sleeving. Now the plug fits the router properly and the grounding wire goes securely to the SGS-1. I thought I might be in for a long wait, but coming back after an hour was all that was needed.
The system is really cooking on gas.

Hmm, gas. Now there's an idea. That should should get rid of any RF on the mains!

A flash is all gas needs...

So another change of mind, or continued fiddling with grounding has revealed a better setting.
I've been listening with Volumio upsampling Qobuz to 24/192 at Very High quality. I wasn't previously won over by upsampling, which could well have been down to the limitations of S/PDIF. Now upsampling seems to give a slightly more rounded performance, not losing any dynamic slam but somehow sounding easier on the ear. I'll leave it like this for a few days to have a chance to listen to lots of different music.
Now the Qobuz format varies but the DAC just displays a constant PCM192K.

Have you had a play with the AQVox switch yet, Martin?

I'm going to do that this weekend, Pete, as I've not had much chance to 'play' this week due to work.

Yes, I've been busy doing other stuff this week too. Had the mad idea of reorganising some of the books in the study upstairs. What you saw downstairs is but a small fraction of what is upstairs. It is now chaos up there and Ina arrives on Friday! Why did I even start?

A couple of newly taken photos tonight. The system as it's likely to be for some considerable time.

... The system as it's likely to be for some considerable time... From a thread entitled " What ya got cookin'. Any plans for 2019?" Very little, if anything, in 2019. I'm extremely happy with how it sounds.

So, I changed the DAC! I'm allowed a little leeway...

How are you finding the screen, Martin? I used to do something similar, but stopped after a while because I found my eyes would default to looking at the screen, which isn't what I wanted them to be doing.
