I tried the Mps HD-280 HDMI cable against the Audioquest Cinnamon last night and today, leaving it to burn in a little. It's an interesting comparison remembering that they carry I2S signals, not HDMI. The Mps carries a little more top end while the Audioquest has greater potency in the midrange and more depth.
In my system, the Audioquest has it but the Mps could suit other systems well. Both are silver plated copper, heavily shielded and very well made.

They are all crocodile clips, Jules. Easy to clip onto the end of a phono socket, gripping only the earth as required. I could have swapped to phono plugs (ignoring the connection to the centre pin) but croc clips keep things easy to move around. I presume your clip goes onto just one channel of a phono socket?

Yes, they tend to have common grounding internally.

Martin
Did you try your second SGS grounding box on your router, before you decided to sell it?

No Steve, on the basis that we proved a second grounding box on the system is counterproductive.

It works well on a router, built a special unit just for my 4D router, Steve has a Entreq on his.

OK, I'll give it a try but I would have thought that common ground along the Ethernet would give the same problems as we heard.

It also depends on what terminations you have on the grounding cables to hand!
I use all available RJ45 ports on the back of my router so went in on the vacant USB port (but might not be easy with crocodile clip terminated cables)!

I could use the USB socket but it'll take some cable creation so I will wait for a rainy day.

Right - I've bastardised a standard USB cable, extracting the ground wire from pin 4 of the type A plug. I shall try that into the router's USB socket with my SGS-1 box.

Well, that didn't work as my 4G router doesn't have a USB socket! Plan B involved stripping a short piece of earth wire, wrapping one end around the DC plug earth before plugging it in, the other end going into the SGS-1. I had a quick listen but will reserve comment until I listen to it tonight.
If it works, I'll keep the box and sort out some proper cotton covered wire for the connection.

petea doesn't have a blog here so I just wish to thank him for an excellent afternoon's listening to music via his three DACs, and a great chat about all things audio. We compared his Lector, Teddy Pardo and Lab12 DACs and they certainly demonstrated different characteristics. I would say in summary that the Lector has the most sumptuous all-round presentation, great on female voice with an overall well-balanced set of virtues. The Teddy Pardo is more matter-of-fact, starker and with a less developed soundstage but possibly with a tiny bit more detail. The Lab12 falls somewhere between the two but is closer to the Lector with a particularly transparent top end. Pete also played his heavily modified Linn LP-12 with Funk arm and Dynavector XV-1s cartridge which has my kind of sound from vinyl. It's the best LP-12 I've heard in a very long time. One song was new to me and made a particular impact: Primal Scream's Free from their Memphis set. It didn't sound like any Primal Scream I'd ever heard and is quite wonderful. It's in hi-res on Qobuz, too.

If it works, I'll keep the box and sort out some proper cotton covered wire for the connection. I can hear an improvement this evening. Sufficiently so that I'm keeping the SGS-1 and have ordered some cotton covered copper wire to do the job properly.

Thanks SteveC and @tonyc for the suggestion of grounding my router. I would never have thought of it.

How does a cotton sheath work in improving the SQ over, say, PE, or PVC?

I'm told it's due to the very high frequency RFI that the grounding box is sinking, although different insulations are used by different vendors. All I know is that copper works better than silver, which is counterintuitive.

I wonder if silk would give a "smoother" sound than cotton. I suppose it may depend on the thread count.

Oh no, I've just finished crocheting a whole set of new woollen sleeves for my cables!

Joking aside, silk may work well but I'm sticking with what I know works.
This grounding lark is a whole new learning experience and full of pitfalls.
