I'd get the system, any system working somehow, anyhow. Climbing over stuff while I do complete it all Agreed - surely that's what the Gales or the little full range speakers you built for your pc are for? To paraphrase my motto - lower-fi is better than no-fi! Any fi Give me patience but make it soon ! There is also the ladder you can set up and climb as you improve the system bit by bit.

I feel differently about it. I want everything perfectly so before I play the first album in there. I can be very patient if I see the target ahead of me

Yes, Martin has sufficient access to music to have given my November Classical Album Choice a good pasteing.

CENTRE CHANNEL? Pah! Speak not of this surround nonsense. You really aren't a Surround Sound fan are you Martin... I think it has a place, but is certainly not Hifi, more Lowfi or really just a gimmick!

Surround sound audio and 3D video are the same kind of thing to me: frillery designed to take your attention away from the deeper meaning. I don't need them.

Surround sound audio and 3D video are the same kind of thing to me: frillery designed to take your attention away from the deeper meaning. I don't need them. I dare say that some people thought the same about stereo when it was introduced. As far as I'm concerned if my Blu-ray is recorded in 5.1 it is for a reason. The problem is, and I've held this belief for a long time, a lot of 'serious' hi-fi people cannot dissociate themselves from what they perceive as the stereo norm. People need to treat listening to their music and watching films as two totally separate experiences. I don't want a sub-woofer on my hi-fi, but when watching a film it makes sense, because part of the soundtrack is optimised for use with a sub. It's the same as having the speakers at the four corners of the viewing area. I might not want to sit in the middle of an orchestra but hearing a voice, or a door creaking, to the left and slightly behind me when that's where it is actually positioned in relation to centre-stage just works a lot better for a more immersive experience in my opinion. They are, if not exactly apples and oranges, most certainly Granny Smiths and Golden Deliciouses to me. That's my £0.02 worth anyway.

Sure, Paul, and I respect that. It's one good reason why my new music room has no TV, because I no longer wanted to compromise music reproduction with the video stuff.
I will setup the TV in our sitting room and that has different requirements and may well end up as a surround system. Right now I'm just trying to get the Sky box working - the previous owner had the dish setup for Astra!

Sorry if you have already been asked but are you putting Ethernet in? I thought from earlier discussions that you stream music as well.

I do stream music using a Raspberry Pi2 and Volumio. I was hoping the house might be wired for ethernet but it uses wi-fi throughout so I'm going to have to compromise for the moment.

Glad to keep you entertained! I keep looking at that damned speaker thinking surely I can lift it, but nope. I'm keeping busy with putting the PicturePanels up.

Wired sounds better both on my previous Touch and with the Pi. Less jitter and lag. With the Pi, a wi-fi dongle runs on the USB subsystem, too.

Martin, I'm waiting for Saturday when you first hear your system in the new room....I won't hear but I'm keen to know how it goes! The room is so important and this should be a decent one.
