'prowling up'? I keep looking at that damned speaker thinking surely I can lift it, but nope. I'm keeping busy with putting the PicturePanels up. I wouldn't, you don't want to end up putting your back out!

Wired sounds better both on my previous Touch and with the Pi. Less jitter and lag. With the Pi, a wi-fi dongle runs on the USB subsystem, too. I get the feeling the lack of a wired network is going to bug you later? I had the same issue when I moved 3 years ago. I had an electrician put the cables in but did all the terminations myself. Very pleased I did it at the start.

I think you may be right, Chris. I have the added complexity of the annex being separate from the main house. I shall investigate the existing telephone extension cables to see if I have enough pairs to convert it to ethernet.

Those of you of a nervous disposition will be delighted to hear that I have now sorted the CD towers into alpha order. Not so the vinyl cubes - please try not to faint.
The PicturePanels are all up and the flutter echo on clap test is further reduced. I now have the curtain poles so they'll be going up next.
No new photo today, so keep your magnifying glasses at bay for tomorrow's 'Spot the Difference'.

Not that I can hear, Mike. It's like mobile signals: all around us.

Not that I can hear, Mike. It's like mobile signals: all around us. Assume that clever internet feed via mains cable is a bad thing ..... Forget what they are called, just plug them in anywhere in the house and you have interweb

I won't add to the mains noise I'm trying to remove, Mike. Power line adapters are a no-go for me.

It's alive!! The Ushers are up - currently under two sets of Lidl washing machine feet, if you remember those. I knew they would come in handy sooner or later! I was very puffed out just hauling them around and getting the feet under them, but I followed my lines marked out by tape and got them all lined up. Everything looks good by eye with a much wider layout than before. Sound treatment is incomplete as there are no curtains behind me as yet. The turntable is not unpacked, either. After a little warm-up, I couldn't wait any longer and connected them up, double-checking everything. First on was Dire Straits - Communique, followed by k d lang - Drag. Both albums I know very well. My very initial impressions: much bigger soundstage, more relaxed and less in-your-face presentation. Very flowing, liquid and non-harsh delivery. Bass develops more fully in the larger air volume and is a lot less one-note. This is with the ports back to being unstuffed, too. Imaging is good. It all sounds quite effortless and... unimpressive? I think that's the right expression - it's more like music and less like hi-fi. I think this is a very promising start from stone cold with an unfinished room. There's more to do, but I'm excited and spurred on by hearing such a good initial sound. I'm leaving it to warm thoroughly for some more listening later on.

Sounds very positive Martin... It is really good when you manage to get the balance just right and hear your system at its best. Those speakers probably warranted a slightly larger room so you'll hear them at their best now.

Looking really fab! Only issue is the pattern on the scatter cushions: running vertically on one sofa and horizontally on the other!
Only kidding. Nice job and quick results too! Me likee!
