So, the SR Purple lives up to its hype?

They claim it's the biggest jump in SQ in their range. It is against Blue and Red in my estimation. I haven't directly compared it with Orange, so I can't know for sure.
Considering all hype is just that, I think they have reason to be excited. For my system, it's been great value for money as I've almost exhausted other ways of getting a clear SQ upgrade without significant component replacement, which I'm not going to do.

The 1" 13A SR Purple fuse has arrived and, while opening up the plug on the Coherent 6D cable, I took the chance to attach the flying grounding lead I will use when the Aucharm XL grounding box arrives. It's back in with the DAC warming up and the fuse starting its burn-in. Will listen after dinner. I won't make the change now, but I have a 1" SR Blue that I might put to good use somewhere, haven't decided yet.

As if to confirm my earlier statement above, the SR Purple is indeed a big jump from the Blue, but in a different way from the Red earlier.
The system hasn't grown much more in soundstage, air and space by swapping in a Purple for the Blue, but it certainly has in terms of fine detail, resolution and focus.
Vibrancy has taken a step up and there is a natural rhythmic intensity to the music. I have never heard Mavis Staples' Eyes on the Prize with as much sheer energy as I am hearing now. I am not complaining.
These two SR Purple fuses are not going back to Mr Brook any time soon!

What does your EtherREGEN reclocker do in your system Martin?

What does your EtherREGEN reclocker do in your system Martin? I have two reclockers. They both achieve one job: to remove polluting and damaging noise from the digital data stream before it enters the DAC. Digital noise comes in two forms: jitter (time domain noise) and phase noise (frequency domain noise). By synchronising the data stream against a highly stable reference clock (can be internal or external), the reclocker 'cleans up' the waveform by removing noise and thereby greatly improves the DAC's performance. The EtherREGEN reclocks ethernet from my internet router to the ultraRendu streamer. Input and output are ethernet. The Mutec MC-3+ reclocks USB from the ultraRendu to the DAC. Input is USB and output is AES. Both use an external AfterDark clock, one each, for even better sound quality.

Hello Martin
Could you kindly explain how to go about attaching the grounding lead to the mains plug please? I have a spare lead and box and would like to try this.
Thanks Dave

Strip and bare the end of the grounding lead. Screw it into the earth (centre) pin of the mains plug. Guide or screw it down at the exit. I use a length of heatshrink sleeving to keep it tidy and protected. Connect NOTHING to the other two plug pins.

Ah right, I see. Thanks Martin.
I asked that question before spotting the grounding thread. But since I'm here..... regarding a mains socket. If I were to loosen a screw on the casing and attach a wire with a croc clip, would that provide grounding for that particular socket?
Thanks Dave

Please don't loosen a screw on a mains socket. You need to ground as near as possible to the components, not the sockets. Ask more questions in the grounding thread.

Aucharm grounding boxes now on Black Ravioli Pads recovered from elsewhere (goodness me, they stick well making them a bugger to remove). I still need more for the Quartz Accoustic boxes and the forthcoming Aucharm XL.

You suggest Black Ravioli Pads to streamers, grounding boxes, power supplies, reclockers etc?

You suggest Black Ravioli Pads to streamers, grounding boxes, power supplies, reclockers etc? Fortunately, or unfortunately, depending on your viewpoint, Black Ravioli are the best footers to use for audio components by a country mile. I have a box full of all manner of discarded feet to prove the point. There are two models: Big Pads for the heavier components, Pads for the smaller items. They do two things very well: vibration absorption (conversion to heat), and damping. There is something magical in how these inert sandwiches of different materials make your system sound better. They are not just isolation as other footers can do that. The damping effect is very real, preventing ringing and feedback from wrecking the precious music signal, thereby letting much more through. The downside is the cost, which becomes a serious investment to kit out a whole system. Do it slowly and, over time, each new item suitably shod represents a cost effective upgrade.

Something has happened. I think the two SR Purple fuses have burned in and coincided with my adding Black Ravioli Pads to the two important Aucharm boxes grounding the EtherREGEN and ultraRendu.
Music sounds more structural, potent, rhythmic than ever. Huge amounts of musical goodness coming through with mountains of detail and the least harshness since I set out to go hi-res streaming. It's infectious and has me hunting down all manner of music. I can't single out any component, the system is truly working in symbiosis.
Well, that's me happy!

I'm sold on the positive effect of Black Ravioli. Have just received a second set of BR Big Pads. So now my Dac and amp are sorted. Will slowly manage other pieces with the smaller pads (streamer, USB/SPIDF converter, power supplies). Expensive? I thought they were a little (although I was rather sceptical of their worth to be honest). But what an awesome addition to my system. My cousin had a retailer trying to sell footers for his amp at £1200 a set. So I have lent him my Big Pads. It's been almost two months now (not sure I'm getting them back). He loves them.

The Aucharm XL has arrived. This one is going to the P3 regenerator via the cable already made up for it.
I shall install it now and will listen later. Not expecting to hear much change until maybe tomorrow.

I have two recovered BR Pads and 7 more arriving tomorrow. I'll be able to put them under the Aucharm XL and two Quartz Acoustic grounding boxes, finishing them all. That might help the sound a little more and can't do any harm.
Still surprised that footers under grounding boxes enhance their performance.
