Surely a HiFi and music forum is for the discussion of such, not current affairs (politics). If people want to discuss politics there are plenty of alternative platforms on which to do so. Surely it is ok for a HiFi and music forum to have an "off topic" area to discuss things like politics, cars, having a cold etc. lots seem to, like this one for example: www.audioflat.co.uk/phpBB3/viewforum.php?f=22

The attempted accusation of 'selfish' ad hominem is more than a little ironic given the posters forum history.

That's fine, but put your money where your mouth is and post some content. The more the contributions, the more varied the mix will become.

Discussing politics is about exciting to me as walking around town with a nail in my foot. TAS sorry guys is so boring these days its of no interest to most folk. It needs spicing up a bit. It needs more content. Indeed. I used current affairs as an example. My main point is that the area would be uncensored so people could post whatever they like, so long as it's not clearly illegal. Every hifi forum at the moment is highly censored with long lists of banned members, and as a result I find them quite dull. One advantage is that it gets the trolling out of the main threads, anything that is not suitable for the 'civilised' section of the forum can be moved by the admins and people then don't feel they are being unfairly treated. I honestly don't see the harm - what would be your argument against giving it a try other than that you wouldn't want to participate if the conversations were about politics?

You only get access to the area after you have contributed to the main forum, plus it is uncensored (apart from for legality purposes). Is the Audioflat area uncensored?

Guy, have you bumped your head or just desperate beyond belief to score some points? Nothing wrong with an 'off topic' section - it's not called the 'let's talk politics' section though......

What forum is completely uncensored? What would be the role of moderators?

What forum is completely uncensored? What would be the role of moderators? To make sure nothing illegal takes place. But you don't have the right to not be offended in that part of the forum. The moderators would continue to moderate the public part of the forum as they do now. It's also an incentive for people to post in the main forum, in order to get access, because they have to build up a minimum post count of relevant stuff.

Just repeating yourself continually doesn't make what you're proposing a good idea. If you're so unhappy with what doesn't go on here why don't you go and start your own more exciting forum?

I was answering a direct question because I was asked! I'm not unhappy, I'm suggesting an alternative way to structure the forum. It's not a personal slight against you or anyone else.

I didn't take anything as a personal slight, and I didn't post in a manner that indicated that I had seen it as such, so why bring it up? You mentioned going and frequenting somewhere else a few post back. Why would you threaten that if you're not unhappy?

The attempted accusation of 'selfish' ad hominem is more than a little ironic given the posters forum history. I'm being accused of attempted ad hominem? Not to mention suffering the forum equivalent of racial profiling. I protest.

ynwan, no bump to the head or attempt to score points, and I don't think that I said there was anything wrong with an "off topic" section. You did make the point though that a HiFi and music forum should be just for discussing that topic. I made the perfectly valid point that many forums, yours included, do have mechanisms for discussing a range of other subjects.

I can't answer your question without repeating myself, so I won't bother.

Jeez, thread drift! Ok guys, we're taking a look at it. Don't hold your breath.
Meanwhile, I'd like to know more about non-hi-fi forums that you frequent.
