I've only ever gone on to hifi forums. And my presence there has greatly reduced - I joined the Wigwam 10 years ago, and after a couple of years I realise that the same old subjects tend to come round time and time again. And forum members tend to "cluster" and if you are unsympathetic to their particular fetish then there really isn't any point contributing. -- Exposure amps, open baffles, Tannoys, Naim, Audio Note, single driver speakers. Meh. The classical music threads are often the most interesting, getting ideas for new music to try. It's just here, and AOS and the Wigwam for me.

HFS and TalkBass mostly, although that Real Photographers Forum looks interesting. I used to be a member of quite a few 3D modelling forums and was an admin on one, but both my free time and my interest waned. I just looked at the TalkBass site and was amused and delighted to see the name of the top listed thread at the moment.... TalkBass thread
.....an excellent question.

It reminds me of the Emperor's response to Mozart: too many notes!

Used to post on the wam, HFS and PFM but all the bitching on there drove me bonkers. Now it's mainly TAS, AOS and Audio Chews is a laugh .

Not a forum as such, but Planet F1 keeps me fed with F1 news and the comments are often hilarious (as in, down at YouTube level).

This is my most prominent forum by a large margin. Additionally, I like a look at the Naim forum for a laugh (there are some complete nutters on there )... and occasionally look at PFM and AoS. And extremely rarely look at a few Audi forums. Just found a newish forum, appears very Naim and Linn focused which could be amusing but thought I'd give it a go. Link: Hifi Kabin

I've pretty much given up on hifi forums. TAS is dull and the same limited number of members make almost all the posts. Given that talking about anything controversial is banned I find it too stale. The other hifi forums have controversy but there is too much censorship and the trolling seeps into too many threads.
When TAS started I suggested a route through this maze along the lines adopted by Eddie's TZ-UK watch forum (which at this moment has 456 members online and in January this year had 7,000 online at one point). The admins thought about it and chose not to go that way.
My suggestion was to create a sub forum which is not visible to the public (on TZ-UK this is called the Bear Pit), entry to which is dependent on the user having been a member for a stated period (say 2 or 3 months) and having made a minimum number of posts (say 100 or 200). This forum is un-moderated, apart from clearly illegal posts. People enter at their peril.
The advantages are: attracts members to post to the forum who are genuine hifi enthusiasts forum owners can still ban members who post inappropriate posts in the censored areas
The disadvantages are that site traffic will grow exponentially and server costs will be high.
I would like the admins to please to reconsider their previous decision not to try this.

I've mostly given up on TAS since the NVA loan scheme debacle. I still don't understand why the scheme was discontinued.

Given that talking about anything controversial is banned Could you explain this a little? What do you consider to be controversial?

BTW the forum is as slow as hell again these days It does look like one of ProBoard's worse days. There is little we can do except to keep pressurising them. The new v6 forum software due soon should help to mitigate performance problems. An Ad blocker helps but not as much as you might think (i.e. the issues are not just slow Ads).

Audio forum are basically Shite imho. Making threads up for the sake of it is illogical. Going over the same old ground is illogical. Forums that are stale, may as well not exist. Making out certain items are de rigueur is idiotic. Being a Forum YES man is prattish behaviour Arse Lickers, We'll, Forums are packed full of em

I wasn't really just asking about audio forums. I wanted to know which other forums fulfil members' needs in their leisure or work pursuits.

Depends what kind of person you are really, not the type of forum Most people have Agenda's which are a big part of forums for people. Cars, Bikes, Audio Forums what ever it be are full of snobs that look down on people with lesser equipment/Toys. I have not been popular in the past fighting against this crap, on many occasion reversing the tables & saying the expensive/Hi-End gear is the inferior clobber. Going off topic a bit: You take someone with Expensive Equipment Vs Modest Equipment. You can put money on the table very few with Modest gear swap it [Unless they are taken in by Forum crap], where as the others are always swapping. Regardless of what excuses they come up with the reason for the swapping is they know full well they aint happy with what they have, but will never admit it. The situation they get themselves into is they have boasted to friends & Forum buddies..Hence they are stuck with the expensive gear, It would be impossible to revert back to cheaper gear regardless of how much better it would be for fear of being Exiled. Living a life of misey must be awfully terrible old chaps. But look at it this way you cannot possibly be taken seriously in your mind & the Hi-Fi forum fraternity unless you have mountains of Specialist gear. Just saying..
