Me too, though more in general. No linear tracker has ever wowed me with its sound. Well it won't fitted to a techie dude haha! Only messin of course, I did see one fitted to a techie at Owston once, it was a home made linear tracker arm it sounded pretty good.

I think it's the lack of the kind of structural authority that you get from a Kuzma, Zeta or Dynavector that I miss in their sound.

The last time I heard a linear tracker on a Techie it had a profound lack of bass.

I could not use one regardless of what it sounds like.

Seems odd to me you would want to keep the deck you use & sell on this! Every one got thur reasons i suppose. It's just that i have owned both decks & had that '774' on each aswell. So have I (tried both decks with a 774). The Systemdek sold ages ago now (about a year I think). It was a good deck - better than the original LP12 - better sub-chassis, and levelling arrangements, but broadly similar. The 774 was a great arm - and that one was mint. I preferred to keep the Pink Triangle for the same reason I preferred to buy it (over the LP12 I listened to against it in the shop). I wonder sometimes whether others have listened to some duff PT's or whether tastes are so radically different. A good PT achieves a level of detail, imaging and depth that none of the other decks I have routinely encountered get near. It can be a bit "light" but to read some comment you would think it was wobbly and thin. I love the sound, and find it close to excellent digital media, and find other decks veiled and muddy by comparison. That applies more so now I have started (18 months late) my modification project, and expect to move it towards Anniversary levels of performance. In that regard, having got Arthur to dig out his old Anni for us to use as a reference, I was surprised how close my PT1 runs it already after just fitting a new bearing. I think the original PT1 was probably the 2nd best deck PT produced (after Anni) to which it was the closest. And mostly that is down to a DC motor instead of that poxy cogging synchronous motor we were forced to use on PT TOO , Export and the like - cos everyone else used it (including Systemdek) In conclusion - I'm very happy ta very much, and would take on all comers with the FXR and Dynavector. An awesome combination

This is my Toshiba SR-370 with Micro Seiki MA-505 arm. The Toshiba is made of very heavy non resonant resin. It is a direct drive. My MA-505 is the integrated version from some Micro Seiki turntable. It has no VTA adjustment. So I had to raise it with some spacers. The carts are Nagaoka MP-50 or Ortofon S 15-TE. Mostly use the Ortofon. It is from about 1969.

Very nice, Juha. I've never seen that deck before - do you know whether it's a crystal locked servo system?
EDIT: I've just noticed it says it has a servo!

Toshiba SR-370 is famous for the resin. It really is dense and heavy. The SR-370 weight is 15 kg. They are sometimes available in UK for about 100 £. Often with SME tonearm attachment on the plinth.

How does The Wand sound, David? That picture was the original wand from about 2 years ago, it needed some fine tuning (both myself and Dominic Harper agreed on that) So now I have the latest version its in a different league to the one I heard on the 401, its a lot easier to mount as well, that previous one was too faffy for me. It sounds excellent in 2 of my systems, it will be reviewed by Mr Pig soon so he may mount it on his Techy (I think he has one) Currently I have used it on my SL1210 with Arthurs new platter (MKIII) and bearing and it sounded very good (it replaced an SME V) I have also used it on a Lenco GL75 I have with ptp top plate and that sounded a smidgeon better in some areas but not others. It will suit most people I expect as it has no weaknesses that I can find so far. I dare not put my DH1 cartridge on it yet.

This is a nice sounding deck, slate plinth and something that a few people said would not work, a 12" clearaudio arm on a 401!

I really like what Arthur's latest platter, bearing and tonearm do on my Techy.

That Reed was a beauty. Can be either idler or belt drive too.

Hah - once you settle on a good deck, it doesn't change much!
