Thanks, Martin. It looks Like a restart has cured it. See post 13 here: theartofsound.net/forum/showthread.php?42486-Cheap-Copper-Speaker-Cable&highlight=Cheap+copperQuote Originally Posted by struth View Post if your prepared to make it up then this stuff is superb. As for constuction, each cable should have 4 strands two + and two -, then twist them together in a star quad arrangement with 2 1/2 twists per metre. As per Geoff's post, I prefer the z plugs and got some good gold plated copper from the Compass Audio guy via FleaBay. Silversounds used to wrap the cable with PTFE tape, I use plastic braiding and heat shink. There are also several posts on Wigwam about this cable, some which identify it as the same cable in Chprd Epic Twin. I'm still searching to locate them again, but here's a link to a thread which identifies the same cable in Silversounds as the one used in Chord Epic. It would appear that Silversounds, Epic Twin, Struth's cable and Chris's cable are one and the same. At the prices the seller Chris found is selling, it's a bargain. Also if all these people inependently think it is good, then I'd wager others will too. www.hifiwigwam.com/showthread.php?104568-SILVER-SOUNDS-2M-SPEAKER-CABLE-(chord-epic)&highlight=Chord+epic

I've now got the cable, and a set of 4mm plugs, just need some enthusiasm to get a set made up.

Excellent. Glad to hear this. Are you using this with valves or solid state mate?

No,not really jayman67. To me they've simply remained the same. I've swapped out to Supra 4 from time to time and when I switch back I notice the difference but that's about it. I got this stuff as Audio Note use silver in their speaker cables but it was far too expensive for me. It works very well between my valves and ANKs. I actually looked at the big Sonys - Tafb940 but the AR 07 came up. I've a wee Sony I keep meaning to hook up to the ss176s but they seem to like a bit muscle.

I'm just trying some Chris. Actually Brian recommended it to me before but I never tried it until you highlighted it again.
I'm not using it as external amp to speaker runs but internally for a new full range driver horn cabinet. At this length (0.5m) a single run seems enough. What I'm hearing certainly make me want to hear a full loom. I've used Audio Note 1mm solid core silver before; this result isn't as smooth but it's more 'live' and dynamic, with great transparency as you mentioned and HF that is crystal clear without artificial brilliance. Bass is extended and full yet detailed.
I've had something similar before (silver plated copper multistrand with Kapton insulation) which was initially interesting but too insistent and tiring. This is giving me much better balance across all frequencies.
Philip - I haven't tried it in Frugels yet but I will. I expect it will compliment the nature of that cabinet's bass and treble nature very well. Don't know if you are considering trying it internally, be interested to hear your impressions and which drivers you use?

My Frugal boxes are in the loft, and the Fostex FE126E drivers (enabled by Planet 10 in Canada) are stored. I might put them together again (Blue Mink ) and have a listen, as I've forgotten what they sound like.

Yes, I did mean you ;-)
Sorry, I saw a comment that you had built them and assumed they were currently in use.

Interesting to hear you are using it internally Steveeb - I know nothing but would have thought a smaller gauge would suit better. Like this maybe : www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/301023980570 : Interesting to hear that's not the case. The AN comparison is interesting as well - it's one of the main reasons I used this cable in the first place. I wanted AN but can't afford it! Appreciate the input!

I'm still loving my cable and wouldn't swap it for anything I've yet heard, I used to have half a dozen different speaker cables I'd swap around depending on what else I was using. Chris's cable saw them all off by a great enough margin for me to ditch all the others. Not once have I felt the need to try anything else.
I'd be very interested in Philip's experiments with the cable as an interconnect. I think I'd struggle to make up a pair because of its thickness and my limited skips/dexterity, but it wouldn't stop me from trying.

Excellent, that sounds like commitment! You've moved from "might drag them out" to buying parts. Those plastic capped ones are much better than the bling metal ones, the threads' far superior. I struggled to get those in the recessed terminal block version for a while, but I've found a source again now.
