I didn't realise how passionate I was about food, for the last six months when I've had the opportunity I have been cooking like mad, I have these huge cravings for good tasting food and I get massively inspired by watching cooking programmes. I don't know if this is a sign of old age but my wife thinks its brilliant. There has been a steak on the top shelf of our fridge for a week or so now and I had to eat it today because yesterday it expired. We have people coming round for lunch so I thought sod it why don't I just have steak and eggs for breakfast. I have to admit it was incredibly tasty. I cooked the steak first on an incredibly hot pan and just finished off with a bit of home-made garlic butter while the steak was resting on some tinfoil i cooked the eggs in the same pan that's why they've got a brown tinge to them . I washed it all down with some lovely Kenyan coffee made in a cafetiere.

A steak sat for a week?! That'd NEVER happen in my house!! Bat it out a bit, season then plonk it in a bowl of marinade and leave for a while. Eat when desired. Im going to sound big headed here but I'm an excellent cook. I REALLY miss my own food and get stuck into cooking as soon as I get home. It was actually a wee boost yesterday as I pay no attention to the days out here(they're all the same) so came down for breakfast at 1745 and had two smashing big fillet steaks, onion rings, corn on the cob and pepper sauce. I'd forgotten entirely it was Saturday and therefore steak night. It was delicious as well!

Steak and eggs for breakfast, how decadent! I'm mostly eating rice and stir fried vegetables for my main meal of the day. I'm loving cooking on a proper gas ring designed for woks, the heat is fierce. I'm not eating much meat at all out here.

Good on you there Tim. I consider myself the master of stir fry. I make them all the time and can't get enough of them however my wife doesn't agree. Regarding meat, I am following a similar route as yourself, but I love meat so it's hard, and if I don't eat meat I find myself hungry soon after my meal.

Think about eating less more often.
I haven't eaten meat since around mid 80s

As for the rest, I think the key is not to buy anything processed - make it all yourself with good ingredients. I make a mean Lasagne, all done from scratch using proper pasta flour.

I gained weight when I had the bike accident and was laid up for months. It's now time to get back to health.

I gained weight when I had the bike accident and was laid up for months. It's now time to get back to health. Best of luck with that - I was in and out of hospital last year and gained several Kg but I'm finding it really hard to lose any of that despite cutting down on the food and taking exercise

If that was the sort of food we all ate regularly, I'd wager obesity levels would plummet and our general health would be so much better.

Damn,I'm starving now. Hopefully we get a decent summer for I am King BBQ. You're all lucky - can't post a pic so you don't have to bow down and worship at the Kings BBQ throne. AND - it's not all meat. Smoked haddock fish cakes(use a bit reggae reggae sauce),marinated and stuffed veg, prawns, homemade coleslaw, potato salad,Waldorf.. Damn. The rule out here is no talk of food or drink till the last couple of days.

Regarding meat, I am following a similar route as yourself, but I love meat so it's hard, and if I don't eat meat I find myself hungry soon after my meal. That'll be the lack of protein, try adding some pulses, beans or nuts. I often add some peanuts or cashews. Try googling high protein foods and you might be surprised where you can get protein from without eating meat. I try to include protein in all my meals, keeping it balanced. Tonight's dinner, Jasmine rice and chick pea curry, cooked from fresh. Boy it was hard to not eat too much! Got the recipe here www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/1108641/curried-chickpeasDelicious, I tweaked it by adding some lemon juice, tomato paste, garam masala and ginger as well. I'll be making it again

Lunch for me today is homemade mushroom soup with masses of freshly cracked black pepper. I'm pretty much addicted to pepper so I keep a grinder in my office desk drawer.

I also don't like eggs with crispy bits, but I cooked it with the steak and I found it hard to juggle them together, I'm not quite the pro jet. Here is a quick pizza I made for lunch, for the first time I put an egg in the middle which was a mistake as it didn't set, raw egg pizza is not quite what it is 'cracked' up to be, excuse the pun.

Have it every day - only as I love it Not quite sure how I got there. Been tweaked over the years. If I go back to the 80s I think it was sandwiches and a danish. Think I found it too stodgy and the danish didn't agree with me much then later the yogurt also disagreed

Out here in Brussels, a crepe and a good beer (Geueze or Chimay) make an excellent lunch.
