I haven't reported anything recently because everything is stalled due to Land Registry issues by the previous solicitor some 10 years ago. Personally I think he should be disbarred, but that doesn't help us. So our purchase drags on and on through countless iterations of bad drawings, missing pages in docs at the registry, impenetrable legalese and sloppy work. We are gritting our teeth with patience. Seems to happen a lot - last but one house we sold, the sale nearly fell through because the buyers solicitor noted that there was no legal access to our property. Apparently when we bought it the previous solicitor 'cocked up' the paperwork and the driveway wasn't registered to us ...

I thought you wanted to move to Yorkshire? That was my dream when I was single. It probably won't happen now, but if we are successful we will have peace and space and beautiful views.

It's high on my list of destinations now Martin, I'm considering Yorkshire, Cumbria, Suffolk, Rutland, Scotland or Wales (as a last resort!). Bloody hard choice . . .

I like all of those except Suffolk. They will all give you a great dose of the quieter life, Tim.
Is China now out?

It's going to be hard to feed your gig habit in some of those places Tim.

Well Rutland would be best being in the middle, Scotland would be OK if I was in the middle of Glasgow and Edinburgh, Suffolk is OK too, but Yorkshire and Wales might be trickier. But being retired it should be OK, as I'll have time to travel I'll work it out I'm sure.

Retired is good.
Wish I'd done it years ago
Not thought about moving oop North. Perhaps a visit to Yorkshire to remind me of what it's like next Tour de Yourkshire

Too bloody cold up north . Move where it's sunny. We have just enjoyed the 73rd criterion at quillan in 35 degrees. Great fun. The mayor riding pillion on one of the outsider bikes and the local rugby club in aprons and not much else offering the cyclists cans of beer instead of water bottles. Mind you, it's not like the move was without its challenging moments.

They're very nice areas and they're handy for both Glasgow and Edinburgh with excellent train connections . They also both have small populations .

Yup , the west coast is nice Martin , but these places are quite small but central enough if you like to socialise and like your big concerts etc .

Not much to report: the various solicitors have worked at their usual pace and the Land Registry are dragging their heels. We have now been given an estimate of mid-October for completion on our purchase! We remain amazed at the small-mindedness and pettiness of people when involved in house buying and selling. Ruth finally exchanged contracts on her sale yesterday, but not before some frankly laughable shanigans over an oak tree that was cut down and taken away after it blew over in the storms last year. Despite the tree surgeon condemning it and reporting it to the council, the buyer's solicitor demanded to know whether the tree had been replaced. Where exactly - on the stump? So Ruth bought an £8 oak tree in a pot and will leave it there for the buyers, who are perfectly happy with that. Not so the solicitor, who wanted indemnity against the arrangement!!

Unfortunately for our world and society this is all too normal.
We put up with it due to lack of readily available alternatives Sad
