Something odd with the timings there! No FTTC plans at all to that cabinet Looks like I may need to supplement with a 3G data dongle with EE, which gives the best coverage.

A good tip for easily extending wi-fi around the house is the little plug-in TP-Link TL-WA850RE device. I have the BT Home Hub 5 at one end of the house and the TP-Link has extended a good signal right to the other end, no mean feat. I have ordered another one to make it reach the two 2nd floor bedrooms. You can configure it several ways but the most straightforward is as a repeater, using the same SSID as the hub/router. That way, you just roam seamlessly around and will pick up whichever signal is strongest.

I bought a Belkin wi-fi range extender just the other day because it's difficult to get a signal at the back of the house. We have an extension there and what were external walls but are now internal are just over 2 feet thick and made of solid stone. Works a treat now.

Nice! Thick walls are the enemy of wi-fi, as I know at work. Some access points are servicing no more than 4-5 rooms. No wonder we have 84 of them!

Not that it would normally affect your choice of new home, but be at least aware of what impact poor internet access will make on your life, especially if you partly need it for your work, too. In my case, I went into our house purchase knowing that the internet speed would be shit. It turns out that it is shit. I've gone from near-perfect 70Mbps FTTC Infinity to 5Mbps ADSL. This is going to make things difficult, especially remote access to my servers at work. I can't even fall back to 3G as that is only two bars at best. Roll on Infinity, although BT can't even say when it might arrive. I always used to use work broadband in preference to home - then put up with the boss giving me a hard time when I got home. Trying to run your servers remotely from home - ouch
