I always haggle Mike, even in shops. Doesn't always work, but you would be surprised what a smile and a bit of haggling can get you

Strangely, I rarely haggle personally but I never pay list price when I'm buying for work.

The NHBC contractors were due to start warranty repairs on my house yesterday. I phoned during the day to see how they were getting on and got a load of bollo about how their mobile tower couldn't gain access blah blah blah. So now they're bringing scaffolding on Thursday. Yet, for the inspection, they erected scaffolding without any problems.
It's excuse after excuse with them. I do hope for your sanity that no-one here ever needs to invoke the NHBC warranty on their new-build home. You're in for months and months of pain.

Not much difference then to the many horror stories you hear about getting things fixed during the snagging period.

I dealt with NHBC i the 70s up on the Euston Road I think. Not the most efficient organisation going and not one I would choose if there was an alternative.
Mix builders with anything let alone a glorified insurance company and there is a mess
BTW a moving tip Make sure you have loads of water to drink during the day or two it takes. Food important but in 2nd place

The guy arrived today, as agreed, to repair the ceiling inside the house. He told me that the scaffolding should arrive later today. When it looked like it wasn't going to happen, he chased them and sheepishly told me that they had forgotten and it would arrive tomorrow morning instead.

This of course is normal. Getting it right first time is not

Well, thankfully my house repairs and making-good have been completed at long last and the quality of work and finish was fine. That didn't stop me from being utterly scathing in the NHBC survey which they (for the only time) delivered to my e-mail quite promptly today. I should imagine that their offices will be burning to the ground by now Onwards and upwards, I have a goodly clutch of viewers coming to see the house so hopefully I may have an offer or two to consider soon.

I won't be there - leaving it to the professionals (I'm quite impressed with Carsons Estate Agents so far).

I haven't reported anything recently because everything is stalled due to Land Registry issues by the previous solicitor some 10 years ago. Personally I think he should be disbarred, but that doesn't help us. So our purchase drags on and on through countless iterations of bad drawings, missing pages in docs at the registry, impenetrable legalese and sloppy work. We are gritting our teeth with patience.
