Snap without the scratches ! 36 a bit quiet for you Martin. Got a hangover Not scratches, dust marks that are barely visible without flash. Volume was after power up. It's usually at 56-62 depending on the recording. Remember the Belles is single-ended so needs 6dB over the Chord.

....and of course, the passive crossovers have drifted off spec as YNWOAN found when he cannibalised his pair and measured the crossovers, which did use then high quality parts I remember. Actually I didn't find any real evidence that the capacitors had drifted far from original spec, but they weren't very tightly toleranced so their permissible spec was quite wide. Of course this isn't necessarily true of all pairs. I did find the wiring had oxidised very badly. The main capacitors were of very good quality for the time and I found more benefit in changing the inductors for better quality (same specification) ones. Better component (capacitor value) matching between pairs also made a worthwhile difference.

Always lusted after one as a kid Martin, had to pick one up when I could. Yeah, all sorted by Densen, broken knob (steady...) fixed, new transformers and caps throughout. Practically a new amp so really happy. Sounds "good enough" as they say...compared it to some highly tweaked passive pre's full of foo componts and came away with no desire to change. Short of lottery win think Im done amp wise.

I forgot to put up a picture of my Stereo Coffee Pre amp I built, on Roids. There isn't another one like this at the moment, is is a bit of a prototype from Chris that he seriously moded. It is totally dual mono as it the PSU.
Very nice James . You tried the new speaker cable yet ?
