A couple more Amplifiers that are still part of my vintage stash, stock photos as I cannot face digging it out of loft storage. Sansui AU-999, really nice with a few judicious modifications and more Knobs than....Well I'm sure you may guess.

Armstrong A10, these sport nice quality Partridge output transformers and Woden mains presenting the music more like a very nice El84 amplifier than an El34.

these sound more like a good El84 amplifier than an El34. Always a good thing. The Leak Stereo 20 (with EL84) always sounded better than various EL34 amps that I had.

Having owned and run several EL34 amplifiers over the years I would say that it Very much depends on the implementation, circuit and transformer quality as much as the valve type itself Martin.

The best EL34 amp I had was a Croft 4S. It was a little soft and I later had it upgraded by Glenn to use 6550s. Big mistake - more welly but harder sound. Nothing beat the Stereo 20 for liquid midrange quality, exceptional on voice. Not much power, though.
So glad I left valves behind, to be honest.

Can be a PITA at times for sure, very much dependant on the quality of EL34 as with most valves, a simple Mullard 5-20 amplifier will sound notably different when swapping out modern production 34's for say NOS vintage Telefunken's or Mullard double getter welded plate's

I think that I may have gone a tad OTT on the Sansui AU-111 front

The Audiomaster 11A's were also available with a Hammerite silver finish to the transformer covers, the black finish being much rarer beasts, I went a tad OTT collecting these as well!

I wonder what 'Warrior on the Edge of Time' would sound like on a thing like that?

TheMooN Hi there, My apologies for bringing this back up - but I am in trouble with a pair of HF25s I purchased from Reverb recently. Someone has restored them and it seems like before his work, a previous owner had tried to change them into a similar set up as PF91 (otherwise I have no idea what they were doing, lol) The output transformers look butchered - but as I have no official reference - they may be correct. However, I am worried. Would you have or know where to get detailed information about the correct configuration of the OPTs ? As you can see - not convincing Here is a link to mine when they were on sale. These are the very ones I purchased to restore: www.aussieaudiomart.com/details/650001915-pye-hf25-pair/images/4567699/Any help is greatly appreciated.
