Its not Verstappen's fault, but I really hope Red Bull don't start playing the same games they used to with Vettel and Webber.

Me too, especially as Riccardo in his own right is damn good driver and deserves to do well.

Whatever the team and whatever the driver, I really hate teams playing "games". I'm really surprised more incidents aren't investigated because F1 is a huge betting arena. One of the most suspect incidents for me was when Vettel won his first title at Red Bull. It was essentially a two horse race between Webber and Alonso. They changed Webber onto a stupid strategy and Ferrari covered it, leaving both drivers way down the field and Vettel as world champion. It might have been a terrible strategic decision but I suspect it was calculated to achieve what it did. There have been many more dubious outcomes over the years. I dismissed the Piquet Jnr claims as fantasy only for them to be proven true

Piquet Jnr. was a black day for F1 and racing in general. He should never have been allowed to race in any class ever again, whatever the pressure had been from Briatore. He was asked to cheat and he cheated. It's the same as Lance Armstrong.

According to Lauda, Hamilton has taken the blame for the crash. Now that's very noble of him, but however many times I watch the footage it rather looks like Rosberg did a Schumacher and closed the door on him too late, regardless of whether they would crash or not. Rosberg should also have been aware that he was changing the engine modes and been a little more spatially aware when he looked up again.

Lauda is just trying to repair the likely damage that he caused when he came out and blamed Lewis well ahead of any investigation by the stewards. What Lewis accepted blame for is for not delivering any points and for damaging the car. He did not apologize for having caused the crash. As a one time high speed driver and track day participant the way that I see it is that as Nico was running down on power he did not want Lewis to pass him, so he carried out a blocking manoeuvre designed to either get Lewis to crash one way or the other. Nico already did the same in the first lap a couple of races ago. But these are the kind of things that fire up Lewis. Now that he knows that Nico is using the burst mode on the engine settings (I think the Merc guys call it strap 6) things will get interesting at the start. In the old days of the pit giving drivers instructions Lewis used to ask during the race if and when he was allowed to use strap 6. It uses more fuel and the engine gets hotter quicker. Nico is obviously using it sneakily at the start of each race. It is not that Lewis is having a bad start. But this crash has inadvertently given away what Nico is doing to pull away quicker. Lewis would have taken note.

Has anyone seen Jackie Stewart's comments? Not only does he blame Hamilton, he thinks he should be fined!

He has always been a bit of a twonk towards Hamilton. Clearly doesn't like him.

I think Stewart's comments are disgraceful, he's just jealous that Lewis might beat his record as far as I'm concerned.

It's interesting to read what some of the drivers have said about the incident. They all seem to think that Nico blocked Lewis when he realized he was running down on power and Lewis was closing in fast.

On the other hand, Max is looking rather hot isn't he, it was a little suss that they brought Riccardo in for the third pit stop and thus ended his chances of winning, but you have to give it to Max, he held his nerve when a lot of people around him would have crumbled!... definite future World Champion.... or I'll seriously consider eating my hat. He's 6th place in the driver standings after his first race - not inconceivable that he is in with a chance of the driver's championship if he can settle down and improve in the next few races. Fended off Raikonnen like a champ that's for sure.

That Red Bull car is really coming good now, Newey's aero design superb as usual.

You can't tell me that the mechanics team that Lewis Hamilton has been given are on the ball. They keep making mistakes after mistakes that even the last placed team would find hard to tolerate. Heads must roll for that jack accident. I can only image the cost of replacing that front section of the car.

I'll have to watch it later when I get home. I see Red Bull have come on just as predicted. All that chassis ever needed was a decent engine.

I really hope we have another title contender in Red Bull. A 3 way tussle between Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull would be epic.

Absolutely storming lap from Ricciardo, well deserved pole. I wonder what happened to Hamilton's engine?
Somehow, Hamilton MUST get past Rosberg tomorrow to keep his championship chances realistic.

Well if it is raining like the weather report says, anything can happen.

Mercedes have had a huge engine advantage. Now the others are narrowing the gap, they can't afford to cruise any more. This is bringing out the inevitable vulnerabilities IMO. Of course, Monaco isn't exactly typical of F1 tracks, but the season does seem to be more openly contested than the last two. A big consolation for me will be seeing less gloating interviews from Toto Wolff. In fact, seeing less of Toto in general is a good thing AFAIC.

Toto is ok, really. It's Christian Horner who gets under my skin. And Bernie, of course.
