I know at least one member is using the MN ETP platter. Widely reported to have issues with symmetry. Perhaps members could comment on their experience with this product.

I guess so
All LPs apart from the bent ones lay flat.
I'll put a spirit level on it

My ETP platter works fine, is dead flat and sounds superb. Never had a problem with it.

Widely reported to have issues with symmetry. Widely reported where, and by whom? I know of at least two owners who have had no problems at all. Since the thread title could be construed to be damaging to Mike New, could we have some hard info please?

One member brought this up on AOS and a number of others reported the same problem. Unfortunately the owner in his wisdom deleted the posts. Another thread was started on the subject. I am merely doing a favour to Marco in asking if there are any other good platters other than his, or other complaints for that matter. Bad (wobbly platters) are outnumbering flat by 7 to 3 so far as I can see from cross forum comments. I think it is a general service to get to the bottom of the problem. Some experienced in plastic platter production suggest that they need to settle before final machining. MN is suggesting it's platters being thrown in transport. One member appears to be happy with 98% flat so it isn't perfect but acceptable to him. The member who brought this up initially was so dissatisfied he sold his entire modded techie on Ebay. Dave Cawley bought it. To answer DB - no I have not bought one but it does reinforce my scepticism in buying mods from the other side of the planet and from non established semi amateur producers. Indeed the whole idea of spending tons on the SL1200. Martin it was suggested to me that you might do a video of yours by you know who. Videos were published of the wobbly ones and they should be still on You tube. theartofsound.net/forum/showthread.php?41916-Mike-New-ETP-Platter/page6

I don't think Mike New makes one for a gyrodec? No but Mitchell make platters that don't wobble. The guy who sold his Techie is buying a Gyro - says it all really wonky !

It says nothing rational. I have had two upgraded platters, and neither of them showed any signs of wobble.

He's been around some time now so difficult to see how you can call him non-established ...

So far he has not offered to replace anything. Also people have put up with problems because of the cost of returning to oz. He is a one man band business that has been going for about 5 years which is not a firmly established concern in my book with the back up you get from the likes of Rega, Linn, Mitchell etc.
Just passing on and helping gather information so MN has a chance through AOS of fixing the problem. Accusations of Shit Stirring break forum rules I believe. After some prodding Marco appears to be on the case. I really don't like the idea that enthusiasts are unhappy and have been stuck with shoddy product from any source.

Martin it was suggested to me that you might do a video of yours by you know who. Videos were published of the wobbly ones and they should be still on You tube. The statistics, such as they are, are too granular to act either way. I have no idea where or why this has blown up but it sounds like there are few owners and many more with an opinion. I've stated that my ETP is fine. There is no need for a video and I've no intention of making one.

Martin There are 7 owners who are not satisfied and 3 including yourself who are happy. Plus one who is happy but admits platter is 98% flat. Other comments by non owners are based on reported problems from owners. Most of the complaints were in the thread deleted from AOS. How many more are out there? - probably not that many. So statistics are pretty sound and certainly not granular. Strong opinions either way.

He is a one man band business that has been going for about 5 years which is not a firmly established concern in my book with the back up you get from the likes of Rega, Linn, Mitchell etc. I think it is good to support innovative 'one man band' businesses where one can like NVA / Firebottle etc How would those big companies you mentioned have got started for example? But of course the small business has to offer the same standard of customer service that you would expect from Rega et al, so I guess you have to wait and see what Mike's response to the issue is. It's not like guy has a track record of letting people down ...

As I don't own a Technics, I'm not really interested in half a dozen potentially deviant platters sold over a significant period of time. I'm also not interested in Marco or AoS and I feel this thread has more to do with that place than it does this one. Nobody here seems to own a problematic platter.
