The new look , a bit of a makeover , as I move further away from trying to be an audiophile to just be entertained by my system and very much incorporating all media , visual and audio . From the left : Acoustic Energy 305's BT Youview box OPPO UDP 205 Yamaha NP-S303 YAMAHA A-S2100 Systemdek IIX900 Ortofon Quintet Bronze MC BT Hub Both the youview box and Yamaha network player use the OPPO's DAC .

Nice! The cabinet to the right looks like a tiny but deep Apogee ribbon speaker!

Nice! The cabinet to the right looks like a tiny but deep Apogee ribbon speaker! That's going as I can no longer open the doors , it contains CDs , Blu-Rays and other discs . The Blu-Rays are in the sideboard along with all the vinyl , the SACDs and deluxe editions are in the drawers the rest I'm ripping .

I've never heard those Acoustic Energy speakers, Barry. How do you find them?

I've never heard those Acoustic Energy speakers, Barry. How do you find them? They are all rounders , not really effected by positioning although with carpet it's best to get them off the floor a bit hence the marble plinths , the AE rep who delivered them personally to me as I had some B stock to start with recommended this . I've tried to replace them with some Castles , Harbeths , ProAcs and just recently Scansonics but they keep returning (out of the loft ) . The Harbeth P3esr , Castle 7 and Scansonics all had a trapped in the box sound compared to the AEs , the ProAcs I possibly made a mistake , I had them with a big beefy Sony amp and the bass was a bit too much in my room I would like to have tried them with my new amp but they went towards funding the amp . The AEs were not expensive (£1k 5 years ago) and probably wouldn't be good enough for large rooms being maybe a bit lightweight in sound , they are detailed and bass light which I like .

Sounds like a great match. I found older AEs to image well and have excellent midrange quality.

Bit of a wood fetish there, I'd say. It is nice though.

Very nice Barry, so you couldn't resist the ProAc's then? They are Kudos X2 Sorry I was confused by your earlier post where you said “new speakers, ProAc studio 118’. Are you enjoying the Kudos X2’s?

How do the Kudos X2 compare with the Acoustic Energy 305, Barry? They are not as bright and work with all kinds of music , I knew they were an all rounder , worked well in small rooms and not fussy with placement as they have a base port . Got them new at half price as the X3 was coming out .
