Nice room and lovely speakers. I'm particularly smitten with the Alabaster though. My first taste of Sonneteer wasn't totally positive, but I think it's just taken me a bit of time to tune into their stuff, I absolutely adore their sound now. Such lovely stuff to own and use too.

Do you live in a show home Barry? I don't think I could let you see our living room ... How are you getting on with these Proacs now? Yes I'll be round with a brush , shovel and hoover Love them, just what I wanted , detailed , in your face (literally) the toe-in is quite severe , a lot fuller sound than my AE floorstanders.

What was it about the taste that you didn't like? I did see that you had their CD player consigned to the bedroom - sacrilege! I've recently sold a pair of speakers to a guy in Germany who has replaced his Leben kit and been trialling a lot of different amps; Class D, valve, SS. He settled on the Alabaster as the best match. I didn't previously know much about Sonneteer but the Alabaster has just gone shooting up my real-world wishlist.

I'm a bit of a "thrill seeker" when it comes to sound. I got off on the wrong foot with my first Campion, because I used the passive input which is less demonstrative and compared it to my "Blood and Thunder" Exposures. I didn't give it a chance to show me what it could do on its own terms.
It lasted about a week and I sold it. Something kept nagging at me to try another. I did and I found it was a far more lovable amp than I had realised. I'm still not entirely convinced my first one was as good as my second, but they were the same vintage. I liked my 2nd taste of Sonneteer so much, I actually ran two Campions into my speakers as Haider and Remo did when they became inspired to make the Orton. It was even better than one.
I also picked up a Bronte CD player which was lovely, but a friend nagged it off me. Thankfully I was able to snap up a Byron soon after. Whilst they do reside in the bedroom, my Sonneteers actually get more use than my lounge system. I look upon my lounge system as my 2nd source of music. It mainly does TV duties.

Cheers Spica. And what are your thoughts on the amp Barry?

Cheers Spica. And what are your thoughts on the amp Barry? I find it very difficult to described the sonic qualities of an amplifier , its certainly not a warm sound nor is it thrashy so we will go for neutral with a punch at least it punches my speakers . I was looking for an integrated with a quality phono stage in my budget , I wanted a used Rega Elicit but couldn't find one , Sonneteer probably wanting to take advantage of the resurgence in vinyl decided to add one to the Alabaster and a guy on the Wam just happened to be selling his almost half price so I dived in . A couple of months later my local dealer was selling a ex-demo Elicit so I borrowed it to test its MM stage against my Alabaster and I'm glad to say the latter won (to my ears) , the Rega was slightly laid back , safer sound . As I type I have just finished filling my stands and I'm playing Talk Talk's Colour of Spring on original vinyl , very happy , the snap and punch of the percussion is wonderful . Foot note : I do wish the Alabaster had a remote .

Thanks for that, useful.
I don't need the phono stage so maybe I can pick up an early model - let me know if you happen to see one up for sale please. I also would like a remote. As a test I tried using the Oppo source variable output the other day but this current amp wasn't happy with that.
I used to live next door to the brother of the Talk Talk singer. He claimed to have written the song Talk Talk. Very sad story, he was a producer for Stiff Records in the day, had a car accident and lost his long term memory, followed by everything else, including eventually his life.

That looks great Barry. Have you had that cartridge for long?

That looks great Barry. Have you had that cartridge for long? No Chris it's about 15 hours in , the input impedance for the Yamaha amp MC stage is 50 ohms and the Ortofon Bronze internal impedance is 5 ohms , I read you multiply that by 10 to match the amp input so the Bronze seem to be ideal , no complaints here anyway .

Nice system, Barry. Not sure how you cope with the all black rack and a silver Yamaha box though, my OCD would be going crazy

Not sure how you cope with the all black rack and a silver Yamaha box though, my OCD would be going crazy The rack was silver but a bit tatty so got it sprayed , of course I could have got the amp in black but it just doesn't look as good IMO , the Denon network player may be going in the conservatory and I'll replace it with a silver Yamaha NP-S303 .
