The one I linked to is better than the blue Julian ( IMO of course ) I have lengths of both Julian and preferred the blue, but in a different system...etc etc.

Well that was an interesting experiment! I've compared the 6mm VD blue to Talk 3 using Fleetwood Mac's 'Angel' as a test track as it's very well recorded and has a really punchy bass guitar line. Results were obvious to me. The Talk 3 in my system is far superior. Ironically it has better bass weight and rhythm; dare I say it, as I hate cliches, the more 'musical' and engaging performer all round. In comparison the VD felt a little sterile and shut in. Switching back to the Talk 3 again, it was as though the system sprang to life again. I am quite happy with the results of this, as the Talk 3 is much easier to snake around my system as well. Just goes to show that size isn't always better ....

It sounds like it was worth doing the experiment though Jules?

Absolutely Chris!
My next project will be getting my Tannoy crossovers refurbed - that's my priority for now.

Careful with that, the cost can run away without you noticing!

hmmm ...indeed - thankfully there are plenty of options at various price levels with Paul @ RFC.
Given that they are now 40 years old I think even a basic refurb will be of benefit. I won't be having external x-overs cased in burr walnut sadly.

Interesting Julian . You would have thought that the 6mm cable would have better bass at least . Just goes to show what a good cable the Talk 3 is .

I love burr walnut - I'm a sucker for a nice bit of timber / veneer ...

Late to this thread....
Excuse the left field approach
Biggest bass improvers in my system were the PS Audio P10 and mains cables, first Ultimates and latterly Coherent
The differences I hear still seems bonkers

Isn't the exposure speaker cable the same as Talk 3.1, Linn K20 and NAIM NACA4? Or were there two exposure speaker cables?

Yep - agreed. I have both. I now have no idea where I got my reference to the "exposure speaker" cable from?
Sleep deprivation kicking in, maybe?

Never mate . Now who on earth could be depriving you of your sleep I think I read somewhere that Talk 3.1 was the same as the cables you have mentioned . I thought that you were suggesting that Talk 3 and 3.1 were similar . My mistake

Isn't the exposure speaker cable the same as Talk 3.1, Linn K20 and NAIM NACA4? Or were there two exposure speaker cables? Original Exposure speaker cable was similar construction to NACA4 and K20 but it wasn't the same. It had larger stiffer strands and a tougher outer sheath. It was a very good cable but I slightly preferred K20. K20 and NAC A4 were supposed to be the same but the outer skin was still different and they still sounded different. I've had both cables a good few times over the years and I have always preferred K20. Incidentally, K20 itself changed slightly at one stage. It retained its geometry and outer sheath but the strand count dropped slightly and the strands themselves thickened slightly. This was documented in a mag back in the day.

I'm so glad you didn't stay up all night counting strands Andrew!

I was almost as nerdy back then. I bought some of the new stuff and sat poking at the strands to see if I could detect a difference

I recommend you compare the cables again after you have had your forty year old crossovers refurbished.
