No and I don't like it as it doesn't work well on the blue background. I'll have another look.

Bother. Lowthers factory is in Norfolk, so my plans to "pop in" to sidcup after tennis have been thwarted. They are matching the unit from the serial number, and will have an exchange unit down in about a week. 50 hours use - manufactured 2008. There are some naughty fairy tale tellers out there. 8 ohm aluminium coils. Next thursday. Ho Hum Perhaps I'll play with that MC15FL this weekend instead Don't you mean MC25FL ?

I blame the fact that it came in the wrong box. Being senile has nothing to do with it!

If I like the Lowther drivers when I fit them, I shall try some better cabling. I didn't think you were a "cable believer"?

Mains cable is probably a fairly good lump of copper.

Yeah mains cable will conduct the current but a bastard to work with. Anyway never mind Lowthers. My decorator client has just started on painting our real oak kitchen cupboards white (Don't ask - like pink kitchen walls its "other woman" stuff). Sue is so high as a result just of seeing the primer coat (and I have to admit, the kitchen is transformed for the better) she looks vulnerable to having some ESL 63's slipped under the radar. There's a pair in Fulham... Hit her, while she's vulnerable?

Well, if you get those, you won't mind selling me the Ventricals (which I now know are spelt B O L L O C K S).

Wonky, you may not like testicals. They don't go really loud - have limited power handling, and suit small rooms best. They lack stomach punching bass and I cannot get them to work with a subwoofer. However what they do well, they do really well. I am listening to one of my favourite bits of music (Elgar fiddle concerto with pinchas zuckerman) which I intended to demonstrate the merit of the Lowthers, still fitted with ANs. Sue (who is sewing harrys trousers while listening with me) made me put the ventricals on. They are so good at this music. It's like lifting a veil and listening to the real Orchestra. Zuckermans playing is sublime. Sue has told me to stop f***ing about and keep these. Result. We have agreed they'll fit. On the promise they might be the one speaker actually better than the testicals I can buy the 63s (I can do that without permission) AND have them permanently in the living room if they fit where I claim (permission definitely needed) Bought to you live from the sofa in real time. Will open a bottle I think. It's only taken 7 years... (and I suppose I may yet still prefer the ventricals) Confused? (does anybody remember "Soap")

I'm not after loud or stomach churning bass. I am after musical, dynamic and accurate. My current speakers - HiFi world said - Cyrus CLS70 £800 Feb 01 Great build. Excellent with rock and dance, but could do with some warmth with acoustic music. Great pumping bass for a standmount!

HHmm. Not sure you can ever tell that much about a speaker from a review, but they probably wouldn't have been on my shopping list, and they aren't an obvious esl clone. Whilst Gordon will point out that the esl57 is perfect in every respect and without flaw, conveying rich bass and exciting rhythm and pace, it's probably really first pick on the team sheet for qualities like delicate detail, uncoloured natural sound (particularly vocals). Exquisite for classical and jazz music, I have yet to see a metal band use them as stage monitors Horses for courses...

Almost.....I do use the little REL Quake to add a little heft to that pumping bass. I haven't yet seen a metal band playing in a normal size lounge but I take your point. When you see Ronnie's LP collection you may be surprised though. Judas Priest features heavily!! I hate to admit that the Quads have now been switched off for ten days. I have been listening to the Teufels quite happily, even for classical and jazz. In fact especially for jazz. The sound of a slap bass, thump of the kick drum and even the tone of the sax are very convincing. If you should visit up here Wonky, and like them, Teufel now do a kit for around €1500, I'm still waiting to see Stu's review of the pair I made for him. It is certainly a problem getting to hear stuff out here so I can understand being led by reviews. I would hate to do that and be disappointed when they arrived though. Mind you, I remember buying a pair of Beyer headphones after we spent ages comparing at the dealers. Got them home and after a couple of days, I had to take them back and get some Sennheisers that had sounded a bit flat at the dealers. What had seemed like drive and pizzaz changed to shrill and wearing.

I see you may once have been slightly influenced by the Tiefenbrun / Vereker double act Mike . At least Martin seems to have weaned you off the turntable. Therapy can be a long and protracted process for those who suffered a heavy infection

The Isos are the only item left from that era and still doing very well. They have allowed all and every upgrade in SQ through.
Are the Isos to Linn what Excel and Fox software was to MS maybe ? - IE they bought it in and built from a great base

Well I've picked up the new EX3 driver, sealed in clingfilm, covered with warnings about strong magnets and pacemakers, and to install in a dust free environment and keep the grills on to stop contamination being sucked into the voice coils. Oh, and to let them warm up 15 minutes with no music before playing. Those ESL63's are starting to sound real attractive! Still, I'll build em best I can (bought some captive nuts too) and we'll see what we get

You know you want the ESL63's, so get on with it. Fix the Lowthers, and flog them on. If Mrs Pinky does not like them, they won't be staying.
