Erm, it all sounds like mad class A one-upmanship to me Never again will I think of the 620W per channel of my Chord into the Ushers as excessive! Probably is a bit of silly waigleing Martin, But blimey what a willy to waggle!

Interesting to see Steve The Shadow on this thread. I've been following his P-P pentode build on Audio Talk with as great interest as I've been following this one. I'd dearly love to hear those two side by side!

Yes, I'd like to hear them too. More than one way to skin a cat, definitely.

I recently had some 6mm bronzed / tinted glass made as a lid to the amp and it looks great, I also had a piece made for the front but I haven't got round to figuring how to mount it, I was wanting to use magnets, but as it's quite heavy I'll have to see what works best. I'm on holiday from tomorrow so for the last hour I be been having one last listen to my Hifi, albeit a little louder than usual. Hammering out my favourite album which is Christian McBride Live at the Tonic. I am still surprised at how good this amp sounds, I've not played this album since I have had the new SECA, I am surprised by its speed, tight control and forceful grip of all frequencies. A snare drum thwack makes me jump a bit. I'm very pleased indeed.

Having re-read this thread in its entirety due to safety concerns, I have felt it necessary to moderate one more post here. RCDs are a fall-back protection system. They are not able to give protection in all instances and should never be relied upon to trip as the primary mode of protection. Please be safe, take measures to ensure you are doing sensible things, don't play with mains power if you are not 100% certain of what you are doing and never prod around inside a live chassis with an earthed wire.

We could get Steve to bring his new amp as well, and if I'm quick I could build one of Colins DIY class A amps for us to hear

Yesterday was a good day at Alan Elsdon's house. His system did sound very good, very balanced with nothing missing, which is very difficult to achieve. He was using a selection of the new products that he and Colin Wonfor have which will be launched in time. However to be honest it was Alan's Infinity speakers that I was most impressed with, they sounded effortless and as I said lacking nothing, they reminded me of the large Tannoy speaker that Paul Coupe, RFC, built several years ago. There are three amps to be launched, a 20W, 50W and a monster 100W, there is also a pre amp that you can see on a bread board next to my SECA. My Wonfor 40W SECA amp was also thrown into the mix which was useful to me as a reference point. It was interesting to see / hear how my amp coped with speakers with a much more difficult load which need a lot of current to drive well. I heard the 50W and 100W amps and both sounded brilliant. Both had huge scale and very clear and sweet mid and top end. Both had plenty of grip and drove Alan's speakers perfectly. I liked them both immensely. When my SECA and was thrown into the mix it did not underperform at all, we all really enjoyed the accurate and 'analogue' mid and top end. The SECA also had plenty of bottom end with excellent control, we could have listened to this sound all day. So it was quite an insightful day in all and thoroughly enjoyed. I took a prototype of the pre amp home last night and by about 11:00 o'clock I managed to wire it up to my system at home and sat back with an ale in hand to have an hours music before bed. I consider my current pre amp to be that of a reference pre amp as I have never heard anything like it. The prototype pre did not disappoint at all; it's strongest quality is the fact that it draws you into the music and you find yourself fully engaged. I also loved it's tone as well, sounding lovely. I was pretty finished by that time last night, that is all I can say about the pre, I'll have to give it some more time.

Which Infinity speakers are they, James? I've heard some superb ones of old.
Sounds like you had a great session there.

I'm not sure Martin, I do know that they are 30 years old and they are the same as these but with only one ribbon tweeter and one midrange driver www.ebay.co.uk/itm/112060658624

Kappa 7, I'd say from that description. The 8 had two mid-range drivers and one tweeter.
