Here is a couple of shots of my new amp boards, well I have had them for a few months now, but I was trying to finish off mods to my DDDAC before I started another project. As I'm a bit toroidal OTT, I didn't buy the ones I needed off the shelf £28 each but I had them made for me to the same design principle as my MTBPS, so we have 350v a toroids with a 500v a iron, shielded and all the other benefits I asked for, if you look closely you can see that they are loaded with copper, ones you buy off the shelf, never give you the constant reading they specify and are always cheaply made. I took the afternoon off work to make a start but I soon realised that Farnel had messed my order up so I didn't have the components needed to make a start, so not a good start really. I"ll have two aluminium plates cut for me next week ready for me to put between the boards and the monster heatsinks, I am hoping ..........................to have the build producing sound by the end of next week, maybe

The folder you gave me with the amp boards is brilliant, really well written and has been my reference. Without it I would be a bit lost. I've just sat down to carry on as far as I can as I have run out of parts, I'll post a picture tonight as an update. Then I need to place another order with Farnel to complete the work.

There really isn't not a lot to see, most of what I have been working on is all the tiny SMC precision parts, which are about 4mm big. This is not on Colin's new DIY boards but they are on thin one. I have used solder paste in the past and found it far neater, but I wanted to try the normal solder approach this time.

Nice work James.
I helped with a similar design some years ago, twin 425va tx's, suitable heat sinks lol, true dual mono, nice FET's measured power 52Wrms into 8ohm and a rock steady 198Wrms into 1 ohm.
Did get a bit warm though lol

Looking good James Some big heat sinks (read in best Australian accent) Thats not a heat sink............Thats a heat sink! Long term I plan to build two of Colin's SECA amps, and stack them on top of each other, the design of my case is to leave the heat sinks exposed so all the heat sink fins will run vertically all perfectly on top of each other. It may end up looking crap but my hunch is it will look good.

Hi mate, Colin has only made one, so I really don't know. I do know that if he gets enough people interested he will make more. I would certainly make another.

We did compare it to Colin TQ class 'A' 20 watter a couple of years ago, in a system that used 802d's which was a bit unfair, I would say at the time the TQ was slightly sweeter in the mids and had better insight, a nice piece Colin did some good work there.
At the time the prototype had superior depth, greater bass control, as in really tight and deep which is not easy on dedicated class 'a', didn't quite match the separation of instruments, though it had bigger staging and a more fluid sound.
I made revisions throughout the power supply, discrete output stage (resistor changes, track routing and a driver stage FET change)and changed the terminals.
That really brought the amp out of the bushel.
The TQ did a damn fine job of pushing the 802's but really they need more realistic sensitive 89db+ then it would shine well.
Imho more musical than the Sudgen equivalent closer the the Lavardin in overall sound and image placement.

Thats really interesting Tony as I also have the TQ Iridium, partnered with 97db OB's. This one that I'm making is meant to leave the Iridium behind, and show it a clean pair of heels, so I'm looking forward to see what it can do. I have only heard two of Colin's amps and I'm very impressed. I have grown quite fond of the class A sound, I find there is much deeper bass and the 'music floor' seems bottomless. Plenty of detail and inside and a big musical presentation. Out of interest where are you based?
