I now have the SECA 40 watt boards, a limited run of 12, 4 of which I will be using myself. The circuits and BOM will be available as soon as I have checked them against each other. James - two of the boards are ear-marked for you. Do you have Colin's notes on the build - not sure if he also lost these. As a note the speakers at my house are Infinity RS3Bs, I took out the original cross-over and rebuilt using all new components but excluded the mid/tweeter pots and fuses. They were re-wired with some prototype speaker cable. I also changed the base-boards as they were not in a good state, at some point I may have a look at the bracing (or lack of it). Now if someone has some RS2Bs they want to let go...... I will come up with some prices and details of any components I can help supplying. Back to James's amplifier - I could listen to it until the cows come home - it was a pity he had to take it home with him. If wanted I can start a new thread to help anyone wanting to build these beauties. More details when I have them - and some pics of the boards.

Hi Alan
Nice to see you here! Yes do please send the boards and I'll sort out payment to you. I have Colins notes on the build, I can scan them over to you, you will have to ignore my scribbles though. Let me know what you need. I have most of the components along with my usually drastically over spec'd toroids ready to go. Keep it as the same thread if you like I don't mind. Funnily enough, John and I were talking today when he was at my house for the speaker bake off about building one of Colins designs......you never know.

Very Odd I replied to this yesterday before the new kitchen and minor flooding came.
Right the PCB that James uses biased up and a increase in voltage will give 50W it is in fact the original PCB which I thought I had lost the artwork for, the problem will be in the 40W version the heat sink will rise between 15 - 20C above ambient and with lovely kids about like James darling, I did not want them to get damaged, But by increasing the bias and voltage you will get on testing 52W and a heat sink temperature increase above ambient depending on standing and clearance between 18-25C.
So the PCB we have are the same as James but will do the job so go get them lads.
But do have fun and any problem do contact me here.

I have these custom made toroids that I was going to use for another project which I have now ditched. They are currently custom made 350Va on a 500Va iron. and the secondaries are 15-0-15v. For the new 40W SECA they need to be 22-0-22. So I am sending them off today to be adjusted. However whilst they are being re wound I have asked for them to be changed to 500Va - Bonkers I know but I have always had a thing for big toroids, as if these aren't already big enough. However, the toroids would need to be completely rewound and use a higher flux density - so they would no longer be audio grade if I wanted 500Va, I can get them to around 425VA and they will still be audio grade (but not as good as the 350Va TM897A I have now), and the need to completely rewind them as thicker primary wire will be required. Not entirely sure what to do, Im sure Colin will just slap me on my bald spot and tell me to leave the rating at 350Va and the fact that they are custom made using excellent quality materials rather than what you can pick up off the shelf, and they are on a 5Va iron , I should leave as they are and just have the secondary voltage increased to the 22v needed.

James that should be a beast of an amp once built! I'm looking forward to reading all about it!

Nice toroids. It depends on whether you can sell them on and start again with specifying the windings you need. I can't help thinking you'll end up with them being sub-optimal after they've been rewound and it'll nag at you.

This thread really is going far and wide, still amazes me how the internet pulls the widest spectrum of people together. I have been carrying out a few upgrades to my system and the more i do the more I realise whole thoroughly satisfied I am with this amp. I liked having the only amp of its kind in existance, but I'm glad you went to the trouble to make more boards available to others.

Colin, You say in the Audioscience thread that I got the voltage of the toroidal wrong, I wasn't aware of this, Are you not getting the 10-20W SECA and the 40W SECA mixed up? Can I confirm that the toroids should be 22V, is there any advantage at all in going higher, let me know as they are being made in the next few days, cheers.

It is sad to say this for me.
Molly James wife want to sell all of James kit including the first 40W SECA I designed. James made his with a little help from me, it was fun to see him progress so well, Molly has some bits to make a second but the first is for sale. When I sea her on the 10th of May at a celebration of James life I will arrange for photos. If anybody would like to buy this unique amplifier please contact me. EWA will be making a 50W version of this amp which will more but this 40W Sovereign SECA and it twin will be rare and precious.
All the monies from the sale of James kit will go to help support Molly and James daughter Chloe. They are both being very brave along with James family with spiritual support.
You can send me e-mail's direct this will mean I see you response early.
Many many thanks.
Col
