Aye, I tend to over spec the resistors too.

Do you mean higher rating resistors?

Aye, I tend to over spec the resistors too. You have to the smoke always worries mums I found, think she thought I was a smoke sniffer, she never found the glue he he That's why I speak now like I have peg on my nose, never sniff IS12 Kids.

Do you mean higher rating resistors? Yeah, I usually up the wattage rating from what's required.

I like the 300W resistors you can buy for soft start and dummy loads. I have a few and have only ever killed one. And a £35.00 each it gets interesting when the ends blow out.

I've never used anything bigger than 100W.

Just me, but I would stand the higher wattage resistors off the board a little, for better cooling. Me too, I put little kinks in the legs to stand them proud of the board.

I fold the leg under tight, because if the resistor get so hot it can glow, the solder will melt anyway to prevent the resistor from falling out. Under the resistor I normally use on double sided PCB leaving a layer of copper, this reflex a little and absorbs a little of the heat. Also if the resistor get that hot the value will change, and since I well over spec them it should not happen, if it does something else is dead anyway. I use to mount them with ceramic tubes , so as to keep the tight and allow convection. But this proved to a waste of time again as I over spec them. I like Bifilar resistors but the cost is far too high for DIY, as paying £10 + for a FET,s seem to put people off anyway. Of course we never mount SMD 2512 2W resistors of the PCB do we.

At last people are having great success in making the kits with some lovely comments on the sound.
Thank you all for your support.
Thanks you

I'm just about to place an order for the toroids from my own supplier because I believe there is a lot of difference between off the peg toroids and ones made specify for the job in hand.
If anyone else is interested in some super high quality toroids rated at 350Va Electrostatic screen GOSS band High quality core run at very low flux density Delivered for £150 for the pair, or if you wanted them at the specified 225Va then the price would come down, let me know.

How about one of you writing up a full review of your SECA in a new thread?

OK will I be too biased ?? Martin LOL, Colin - just a bit! I'm sure there are several members among those who bought your boards or kits who could do a good write-up of why they chose the SECA and how it's performing for them
