Just picked up a pair of these for £25. Always fancied the Brooklands edition but these are just the standard model. Haven't hooked them up yet but looking forward to hearing them.

Hooked these up last night and I'm dead pleased with them! They sound excellent on the end of my KT88s but only a write hooked up to a NAD 3225 with different speaker cable. All in all delighted.

That's great news Chris. Are you going to try to sort out the stoved in tweeter domes?

Just suck them out. Really, it's the best technique.

I haven't seen or heard of these before. Do you know if Sony manufactured them or were they built for them? Interesting experiences with cable synergy too. That's why I keep a few options. If you like them, you could always re wire internally with the silver plated copper speaker cable or something else of your choice. Internal cabling is often poor IME and I have yet to have a bad result from re-wiring.

Upgrading crossover components, especially caps, can often reward too.

Tried sucking them out with an old toilet roll tube but no luck. Might try the Hoover or a bit insulating tape.
Not too sure about the build history but think I will leave them alone. I do have some thinner silver wire which would work well but my DIY projects haven't gone very well recently and it'd be a shame to knack them.
Going to try them with the NAD and my good cables but I do prefer my valves!

Drinking straw can work well, as can a bit of parcel tape wrapped round your finger.
not much info on the net but they were UK made. JPW factory used to do quite a bit of outsourcing IIRC.

Audio enthusiasts tend to dismiss Japanese speakers in the main, but then these are not strictly Japanese are they, they look very impressive.

Excellent. Swapped them round with standmount Tannoys in the living room and they are proving very good. They work well with th TV/media player and sound excellent on the end of my el34s. My next plan is to use my super duper speaker cable with them and I think that'll lift them just a bit more. They're a good size as well so not too obtrusive. All in all - delighted.

Funny you should draw a comparison between Tannoy and Sony.................

It's just because that's what was there before - picked up Tannoy Mercurys for £20 at a charity shop and Mrs Chris loves them as the look really appeals to her! For £20 they were a bargain as well. The four sets of speakers I have all have different strengths but all are very good. My ANKs are my favourites though as they are very neutral and just seem to let more of the music out. Perfect for valves, perfect. Is there a connection between Tannoyand Sony? Same factory, different branding maybe?
