I am far more concerned with the content of posts than typeface. If someone is contributing meaningfully and enjoying themselves then I'm happy to read their posts. As long as you can read it then why not have a bit of freedom and variety? Imagine if we had uniformity in our system choices. I've visited such forums and they didnt do a lot for me.
To play Devil's advocate advocate one could equally ask the question why the majority just use what's presented without changing to suit. As I've said, it's just laziness in my case. I always use Verdana for EBay listings as it just feels natural and relaxing to read. It was designed for this very purpose when reading from a screen IIRC.

It's the content for me, always.
However, where house style prevails (e.g. Optima at work) then it's easy to stick with that rule.

Larger font does seem a bit loud to me - a bit like someone invading your personal space and getting too up close, or deliberately raising their voice unnecessarily. Strangely, I do find it mildly offensive.

They are not assholes I can say that because after taking Mr Apollos bodybuilding plans I fear nobody. Nobody can stop ME, I am two separate Gorillas, I can wrestle poodles and win. enjoy PS. Leave it running after Mr Apollo. It is a fontastic Bonzo Bonanza - well it was on YouTube. Shucks. In the canyons of your mind, Urbane Spaceperson......

I do tend to read large text as shouting, that's because we're conditioned to it ever since forums started. However, as with all things, I get used to it from certain members and it no longer registers.

Ten shun. Trying to explore the benefits of an ignore button I reached for Menu | Help only to find "We appear to be experiencing issues at the moment. "

edit: just seen the post above and I must say Verdana 2 is easier on the eye than anything else. Not sure I can be bothered or will remember to use it all the time but I do like it. Verdana is my standard for email. Easy to read and easy on the eye

Being a member here is actually helping me to become more tolerant and consider other people's perspectives more often. It's a direction I want to continue to follow and it's also allowing me to enjoy my music more. Who knows, I might even end up trying to understand and appreciate Classical Music! Opera might be a step too far but you never say never We only have two members who vary typeface and colour AFAIK and both are fine by me. Vive la difference I say

Larger font is simply bad forum etiquette and is generally regarded as shouting. Frowned upon or even banned on other forums. Don't see why a certain individual should have been indulged here.

Larger fonts are a political issue. A spokesman for the sensible party said earlier today whilst consuming a pint of pale ale in a picturesque pub . Rules is rules whether it's larger fonts annoying our members or illegitimate polls .rules apply to everyone not just the singular person. I hark back to a pre 1950 sensibility.

I've changed to size 2 now, but even size 3 is hardly BIG.

I find non-standard type visually jarring, and so tend to skip posts which use it, but as such it's no bother.
Tip: If you find that the standard type is too small to read comfortably, press ctrl+ within your browser and all text will increase in size - since the effect of this is not limited to single posts, in seems a much better solution for the hard of seeing (press ctrl- to shrink, and ctrl0 to reset).

I tell you what I can't stand: avatars that use moving images. Some of them are mildly amusing the first time you see them, but most are not, and when seen for the 100th time they do pall rather. Font sizes I couldn't care less about. The only thing about fonts that annoys me is the use of Comic Sans for anything remotely 'official'; it just looks naff and amateurish. Even that only scores about 2/10 on the annoyingness scale.

Thanks for the tip but it does not work in Chrome on a Mac sorry. I am sure most Windows IE viewers will find it works for them.
The ignore setting is great you see nothing whatsoever about the poster, not just their text but who, the whole left side of a post, signature, the lot. As I am currently only ignoring one person it is no mystery who one is ignoring. So far I have resisted any urge to use the Display Post button and if the soul seldom gets quoted their output just isn't there.
Good to see the topic being aired.
One cannot help but wonder if it will end in tears if it ends at all
