Recently purchased a manufacturer refurbished T430s, been playing with it all day... Is it a secret ThinkPads are so damn good or have I just been living under a rock ? I was pretty much married to my MacBook Pro but that's history now.
I really cant recommend the ThinkPads highly enough... Cannot find a single annoyance with it which is rather rare for a laptop !
As per the title: Sayōnara Apple.

You've got to love a machine that has gutters built into the keyboard so when you spill your coffee, they drain away all the naughty liquid from the vulnerable places! We have two T400s and like them a lot.

There certainly aren't many publicly swapping from Mac to PC
Interesting......

I have an L420 from my employers because the Toshiba got stuffed and I had to move on.
Thinkpads must be for 1 finger typists - a keyboard layout I still haven't got used to. It is as if a new stater was given the job of fitting the cursor, PgUp/Dn, Home, End,Dele keys etc in around the "proper" keys.
I wouldn't spend my money on one. Give me my MacBook Pro anyday

I think many judge the Windows OS whilst using inferior hardware, on this ThinkPad the user experience is a world away from my own memory of Windows. Sure there's not as much eye candy as OS X but at less than half the price with what feels like greater build quality I'm not going to moan. The reason for leaving Apple ? They simply aren't what they once were, or at least that's how it feels ! Lots of buggy software and poorly designed hardware is not what springs to mind when one thinks of Apple but that is the reality and it seems to be getting worse... I forecast a decade of decline for them so made like a rat & jumped ship Oh another thing, I can replace the battery on the TP myself, it just clicks out - I can even add another where the removable optical drive is giving double battery life or I can add another HDD there, the possibilities are endless, inexpensive & I can do it without the need for a "genius" ! On current MBP's the batteries are unsealed & glued the the rear of the keyboard, the idea of user replacement is laughable and I'm sure they'll charge a pretty penny for doing it... The robbing b*stards. I find myself wanting to distance myself from their products, problem is I've got: MBP, MB, iPad, iPhone, even my wireless router is Apple FFS

I've been at the SIMS Independent Conference these last two days (the pre-eminent educational enterprise software for both state and independent schools) and Phil Neal, managing Director, gave a well-informed speech that had me nodding in agreement. For the sake of clarity, these are his words not mine:
"Apple are dead. They are incredibly closed and focus only on the consumer market. Just try and get an educational discount from Apple! Microsoft and Google have a much better approach to the educational market and cater for all platforms in their strategy". Then he went on to praise Microsoft OneNote and the new Surface Pro tablet.
This was to a virtual sea of iPad users, with me pretty much the only Surface user and making notes in OneNote!!

From what little I've seen even their core consumer market is becoming jaded too, new product announcements used to be exciting "what awesome new gadget will we have next ?"... Now its an apathetic "what have they rehashed now ?" - Thats the feeling I get from fellow Apple users I know anyway. Must admit I do like the look of the Surface Pro 3

"Apple are dead. They are incredibly closed and focus only on the consumer market. Just try and get an educational discount from Apple!" I did, it was very easy, got 5 years warranty for just a few quid on the Mac Mini after providing my wife's academic email address ...

I'm waiting for the Surface Pro 4 in summer and will then ditch my powerful desktop workstation at work, going for a dock and retaining my 24" screen. It will finally be the point where portability meets power meets battery life.

Not tempted by the imminent iPad Pro then Martin ? I couldn't even consider it, James. I need to run all our enterprise software on it, as well as server domain administration. It needs to be fully Office standard, too. Much as the iPad Pro may turn out to be wonderful (and I'm sure it'll look gorgeous), the showstopper for me is iOS which is not an OS that I can make any meaningful use of. It just doesn't fit a business environment.
