I've heard some horror stories with Dell, their laptop battery/charger systems are particularly notorious ! Not sure on Windows virus vulnerability, no doubt Martin will know ? I've been recommended "ESET" anti-virus but have just been making do with Microsoft security essentials which is like a freebie included with W7... It appears to work fine. To be honest the only times I've ever had virus problems in the past was due to viewing dodgy p0rn sites

No more so than Macs! Seriously, all platforms can acquire viruses but Windows has been greatly more secure since version 8 onwards. AV is built-in and free and it works. You can't be complacent on any platform but provided you listen to your AV software you should be fine.
Mac users without AV software are waiting for a disaster to happen. Put Sophos for Mac Free edition on it now!

I remember those. Not bad for their time but the OS was some kind of custom MS-DOS, I think?
