I've long admired the Technics SL-P1200 battleship build CD players, but I have just found out there is a later model, the SL-P1300. Mine was similar with XLR outputs rather than digital. It was designated SL-P1200 but with a suffix and was ex-broadcast. Unfortunately it turned out to be unreliable and skipped a lot. Lovely meaty sound but not up to modern levels of transparency.

Pretty sure the 1300 was only for the US market.

Could just be the one Justin Haywood & The Lads have been looking for all these years.

Very, very excited! I've just bought a pair of Acoustic Research LST speakers for a fantastic price. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/322016891262The bass drivers need refoaming but these are a pair of speakers that I've wanted to own since what seems like forever. Whoooo-hoooooooh!!

Not only a rare speaker but also in even rarer condition. Very nice find. Not sure I'd have even known where Kidlington is

Are you competing with Jerry, Andrew? Jerry has more staying power I tend to go through phases of box-swapping, settled listening (well, a few weeks) and sometimes complete disinterest in hifi and music. It's been the pattern of the last 30 years. The little Stoet was such a rarity, I knew it was a "now or never" situation. The pity is that I really don't have the other bits to make it sing. Sure it's still good, but it could be REALLY good and I will probably never know. Big speakers are not in my agenda as I will be selling up and moving again soon. Based on past experience, I won't have the patience to hang onto it long enough for my listening arrangements to change. As as for the Redgum amps, I've seen them before and made a mental note of their desirability. The baby 35 watter wasn't the one I Wanted though. The speakers I have these days seem to like more power.

I wonder if a pair of used small Klipsch speakers would be just the thing with the Stoet?

The AR3a, especially the 'Improved' one, was a really good, if slightly characterful sound, but the LST's were better - the sound not box-bound, and properly placed, I think the added dispersion helped too. the only decent alternative to big IMF's I remember at the time - stock production Tannoys sounded like big tinselly, coloured loud radiograms in comparison...

Not sure I'd have even known where Kidlington is :) I'm chuffed to bits Andrew - apart from the fully expected rotted foam in the bass drivers, it seems they are very tidy indeed. The lady who has them sent me some behind the grilles photos today and they look pretty good! And no, I had no idea where Kidlington is either, but actually, you know what? It wouldn't matter if it was a suburb of John O'Groats! Dave, I think we've discussed LSTs and MSTs before, haven't we? I knew you were a fan. I'm really hoping that all the 18 drivers are OK apart from the foam on the bass ones!!

Look out for a flurry of speakers up for grabs here on TAS in due course - I have to clear the decks a bit. For starters, I will be moving on a pair of walnut AR 2ax.
