Wait did you guys watch Love/Hate? I thought that show was riveting. Some of those guys were tough as nails though a few had a screw loose. These jokes would kill in the US FYI. I'd never come across it before, but I'll certainly be investigating it, especially as I now know that Ruth Negga (one of the stars of the brilliant "Preacher" series) is in it. I remember being surprised to find out she was Irish after hearing her American accent in Preacher.

Did you offer young Graham a glass of fine Greek wine, Paul? Nope. He was driving.

London Kills: Some glaring errors in police procedure, despite being billed as a " police procedural". Amateurish in places, it has an air of lunchtime telly about it, so I'm watching it at lunchtime. The leads are Hugo Speer (The Full Monty, Deathwatch) and Sharon Small (The Inspector Lynley Mysteries, Mistresses). Originally made for Acorn TV if I were being unkind I might mention Acorn Antiques here. There are many semi-familiar faces of the Oh bugger! Where have I seen him/her before? type turning up as guest stars. It passes the time while eating lunch and completing Wordle. Hidden Assets: Split between Co Clare and the diamond capital of the world, Antwerp, its all about drug snuggling, terrorists, politics, and family. The stars are Angeline Ball (Imelda Quirke in The Commitments et al) and Belgian actor Wouter Hendrickx, (De Infiltrant, and Cordon). The show boasts a strong Irish female cast, with His Dark Materials and Jimmy's Hall actor Simone Kirby starring as rich businesswoman Bibi Melnick, while Red Rock and Miss Scarlet and the Duke star Cathy Belton plays forensic accountant Norah Dillon. Peter Coonan (Love/Hate, Peaky Blinders), Michael Ironside (The Alienist, Angel of Darkness), Jane Brennan (The Tudors, Brooklyn), and Aaron Monaghan (Vikings) also feature in the somewhat stellar cast. I'm only two episodes in but It's enjoyable enough. Might be one for you and S.W.M.B.O., MikeMusic Both on iPlayer.

In the interests of fairness, Graham has delivered my last three parcels via Evri on time, and in perfect condition.

The first one you may have heard before, the second you probably haven't, and the third track is a gem I'd be very surprised if you've heard. It's worth checking out the band (Pagan Altar) if you enjoy it.

That sounds remarkably like my experience calling Enfield Borough Council on behalf of my mother countless times. Promised letters never arrive, including a potential humongous bill for carers which were cancelled a while ago, surprise letters telling me something I don't really understand, and the ring-around game where you get passed around but nobody bothers explaining anything so you are left having to start again each time. Most recently, my application for lasting power of attorney was rejected after being with them for three months, on account of me signing my part in the wrong order. They sent me another single sheet to sign with today's date so that it is now in the right order. You couldn't make this stuff up. It drains me, it really does. It didn't help that my back is having one of its turns, and I feel like there's a knife buried between my shoulder blades. Mind you, I haven't actually looked, so there might well be. I had the same sort of problem when I took the LPA out for Mum. My next-door neighbour, who was one of my witnesses signed with her first initial rather than her full name (or the other way round, I can't remember now) and again, after months they sent it back for me to fill in all over again as corrections are not allowed.

I just need to write this down, if only to stop my outbursts of somewhat hysterical laughter. Without going into too much detail, when Mum was admitted to hospital after a fall, at the end of January 2021, she was in a pretty poor state, but eventually she was well enough to be released and was put into a temporary care home whilst I balled the local authority red tape (the people themselves were very nice) via multiple meetings over Teams, and eventually, on 25th of May I managed to get her into the care home which was my actual preference. What I didn't realise, after cancelling every bloody thing I could think of and more, that was in mum's name, plus getting her house cleared, was that she was still being paid her attendance allowance. Fast forward to March of this year when I got a letter informing me that there was a query over said attendance allowance. Immediate reaction - what attendance allowance? I rang the number on the letter and (eventually) spoke to a very nice young lady who walked me through what was or was not happening. She went into great detail about mum's situation with me and - long story short - said not to worry, although she technically owed them a repayment (I got her to check " off the record" and she told me it was about eight grand) due to her state of mind at the time and her age (she'll be 100 next year) the powers that be were very VERY unlikely to pursue the repayment and it would most likely be written off, as that's what usually happened in " those situations". All was good. Until today, when I received a letter informing me that " We have looked again at a decision about Attendance Allowance. " We have looked again at the facts and evidence we used to make our decision. However, we have not changed our decision" So, I rang them and spoke to yet another nice lady (eventually) who, took just about every detail except my inside leg measurement, including what was my mum's phone number was, for the house she last lived in over two-and-a-half years ago, which was a part of their " current" information for her, Eventually, she asked what she could do to help me. I explained that it was all well and good sending me a letter telling me that the decision hadn't changed, but it would have been nice if, at some stage, somebody could have informed me what the actual decision was, which nobody had. She explained that all the letter meant was that the decision had not changed. I had visions of this one going round and round for ages, so I asked if it meant that she owed them money. " Oh no", says she, "t hat will come in a separate letter if that's the case". " So," I asked, half-jokingly, " this letter is simply to inform me that the decision which you have not informed me of has not changed, despite being reviewed?" When she answered, " Yes, that's right." I knew it was time to say my goodbyes and hang the phone up. So, an official letter, and the best part of two hours of my life, has left me none the wiser. I still don't know what their " decision" is, or whether they'll be trying to recover their money.

Just a quick tip, although it's not break-the-bank expensive, consider how much you're actually going to use before you buy a reel big enough to solder two hundred sockets. There are some examples here from a well-known hi-fi retailer.

As expected, not exactly the last word in sophistication, but it's not stuff you tip down the sink either. It was something between an Oloroso and a Tawny Port, but without the depth and body of either. I tried it chilled last night, which may have accounted for the initial rough edges, which smoothed over time. So, it's room temp tonight, and we'll see what that brings. At six quid a pop though, well worth the money.
[EDIT] Definitely more palatable at room temperature.
