I've just read that the English Ice Hockey Association (EIHA) is making neck-guards mandatory from 2024 onwards. Some clubs, like the one in my local county, are already wearing them.

I've just ordered the new 2nd gen Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max as it looks like a decent upgrade to my current 1st gen model. The new version has a faster 2.0 GHz quad-core processor, double the storage, and supports Wi-Fi 6E.
Part of the blurb also reads: "Turn your living space into an art gallery: the first-ever streaming stick with Fire TV Ambient Experience lets you display over 2,000 pieces of museum-quality art and photography." So, yes, wonderful, I'm going to leave my TV on all day using electricity instead of only turning it on when I want to watch a TV program, or a film. NOT! Possibly the most useless feature I've seen lately, taking today's economic climate into account. Still, they're a U.S. company I suppose, and maybe things are not quite so savage re electricity prices in The States.

"Love & Death" on itvX: I've just watched the fourth episode, and I'm at a bit of a loss to explain why. It's just teetering on the edge of "black humour" for most of the time, but any actual laughs are few and far between. It's based on a true story, which makes it even more interesting, although it's not my "type pf thing" really. In a way it almost reminds me of Season 1 of Fargo, the TV series, but then again, not really.
I shall watch until the end, because despite it being a true story, I really want to see what happens next, and how it all plays out.

If I were banished to a desert island and allowed to take a big box of films with me, those three Fincher offerings would most definitely be included, Tim. I've read a few reviews of The Killer, which seemed to start out gushing with praise immediately after release to the one I read yesterday, headed (and I'm paraphrasing) " Maybe the lead character in David Fincher's "The Killer" is meant to be that boring". Without my having seen it, I wonder, could Fincher actually be saying " murder and murderers are usually quite mundane, and not like the movies," almost mimicking/updating Cinéma Vérité in fact? Or maybe I'm just being too arty-farty about the whole thing?

The words "novel" and "fun" come to mind. Good musicians determined to plough their own furrow and enjoying themselves at the same time, which is great. Something I might play once-a-year, but not more often. 3/5

I actually believe that, and what's more, I believe it works 100% of the time.

Simple question: Is there anything in the rules of hockey that allows for a foot deliberately raised to neck level without a foul being called? I'm guessing not. From what I read at the time it was a deliberate kick while wearing what is the equivalent to an offensive weapon. Manslaughter all day long. The player who died was assaulted and the fact that it happened on the ice makes no difference unless the player committing the assault can prove that he was not physically in control of his actions, which, as a pro, he should have been. Maybe he didn't mean to kill him, but, that's why it's not a murder charge.

It looks to have an interesting price-point though, if it performs as well as it should do according to the promo.

I enjoyed it and it definitely set itself up for a second series but Angeline Ball (Emer) has left, replaced by Nora-Jane Noone, so broken continuity for S2. I'll reserve judgement, but I can't help thinking that they've retained the wrong female lead in the rather unlikable Bibi Brannigan (Simone Kirby). I found this after a quick search...

I will play it at some stage, but as it's one of my favourite albums, and full of classic Moody Blues tunes, I've marked it 5/ 5 already. It was made-to-order for the long-haired 15-year-old sci-fi fan and music nut that was the 1969 me. Actually, on reflection, I haven't really changed a great deal in the intervening 54-or-so years, except, well, the hair is a whiter shade of pale blonde these days I suppose, but it's still long, and although she's 99 and I'm 69 now, my mum still nags me about it. I remember that it was one of Richard Dunn's favourite albums too.

I finished Hidden Assets S1, which was ok as police procedurals go. There is an S2 but I can't find where it's being shown in the UK. Acorn TV, Martin, and it's literally only just premiered, so it may come to iPlayer in the future. In enjoyed it, and liked the characters, but thought the very end of s1 was a bit lacklustre. Maybe they were just setting it up for the second series. tellyvisions.org/article/hidden-assets-season-2-trailer-plot-cast-premiere-date
