I've just watched the Battlestar Galactica mini 2-parter again. This started the re-imagined series and is a cracker in its own right. If you like intelligent, well-made SF, you owe it to yourself. Watch Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonnell play the performances of their lives and Tricia Helfer put shivers up your spine. It's a real treat and is on BBC iPlayer now. www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p08l2n7q/battlestar-galactica-series-1-1-mini-series-part-1I bought the whole thing on Blu-ray years ago. If you haven't seen it, " Caprica" which is a sort of prequal to Battlestar... was pretty good too.

Does anybody like them? Probably not, but on the off chance I thought I'd bring a Sainsbury's offer to your attention. They're currently selling Monster Energy drinks at " spend £30.00 get £15.00 back". Consequently, 3 boxes of this... or this ...at £10.00 each will end up costing you £15.00 for 27 x 500ml cans, which is a hair under 56p a can. Both are advertised as being sugar-free, GMO free, gluten free, allergen free, and the Ultra is supposedly " suitable for vegetarians/vegans". There are two others in the offer, Original and something called "Pipeline Punch" - both of which contain sugar - at £11.00 per pack. Don't shoot me, health freaks, I'm only the messenger.

I decided to check out "Hinterland" on iPlayer and it confused the heck out of me. I know I'm getting on a bit, but I thought my hearing had suddenly worsened ...until I realised the reason I was missing part of the dialogue was because it's partly in English, and partly in Welsh. Subtitles to the rescue.

Ah, ok. Mine will do 2560 x 1440, which is called QHD or 2K, between HD and 4K. It really helps when I'm doing stuff like parent portal editing right now, with lots of embedded documents and some HTML in different windows. It was horribly tempting to up the spec, but I'm learning a bit of self-control in my old age. You know how it goes, "...this one is only £30 more, but if I'm spending another £30 then maybe that one at £50 more would be even better, but if I'm going that far, then..." and suddenly you're buying something for twice the price of your original choice.

Hidden Assets s2 starts this Friday (Dec 02) on BBC 4, and iPlayer one assumes.

Very nice, Paul. My 27" AOC is still going strong. Will yours do full 4K? It's quoted as being "Full HD" which equates to 1080p (1920 x 1080). Equivalent spec 4K monitors to the one I've ordered start at around 3 or 4 times the price I've paid. Unless I was prepared to accept a 60 Hz refresh and a 3-or-4ms response time 4K was a non-starter for me. I'd rather the higher refresh and response time etc. As an example, a Philips Momentum 27" 4K UHD Gaming Monitor - IPS, 144Hz, 1ms, Speakers, HDMI, DP was £699, in the same sale as mine was in. The cheapest I found was an LG (4K UHD 144Hz 1ms) at £429.99, mine was a £124.99 " Black Friday" deal.

In no particular order of preference, and they are "favourites, not my opinion on his "best" films. One final proviso, I have never seen Black Hawk Down. For some reason, I always seemed to miss it when it was on TV and was only reminded of it by your list, and I can't help feeling it might have been in mine too. Black Rain only just missed out on being on my list, and (final "excuse") obviously I have not seen all, or even the majority, of Ridley Scott's films.
1. Alien 2. Blade Runner 3. Hannibal 4. Prometheus (3D) 5. Alien: Covenant
As you may have guessed, I'm a wholly unrepentant sci-fi film fan.

I had a year contracting, but preferred to pay the agencies a fee to sort my tax etc. I had some great gigs, but was looking for a permanent job on and off for most of that time.

Money may not be able to buy happiness, but at least it makes being miserable a great deal more comfortable.

Apparently, a panellist on Have I Got News For You last night suggested that ABBA's version of Waterloo is more historically accurate than Ridley Scott's.
