I don't know, there are a lot of turntables that are a lot more expensive than the Technics, the Monaco being a prime example (I suspect the Onkk will be another).

I wonder how the Monaco would compare to the reborn Technics. Hard to organize Mark and would both need same cartridge on. Do you still have the same TT that won the competition in AOS a few years ago? Yes, I appreciate that. As far as I know Keith owns the only Monaco in the country and 12" Tri-Planar arms are hardly thick on the ground. I guess it was more of a rhetorical question really. Regarding my deck, yes I still have it (and use it). There have been a few changes (looks the same though), improved power supply, modified magnetic bearing, improved armboard, improved record termination. However, I have been working on a wholesale improved model for about 15 years (slow progress ) but it finally looks like some progress is being made (just developed the motor mount).

A close friend has a large collection of Canon cameras of all vintages. Personally, I just use my iPhone.

I run my three-way speakers active in the bass and passive to the mid and treble. I can't see myself going back to passive but neither is it likely that the rest of the speaker will be converted to active operation. I also use DSP in combination with the active drive in the bass and find it works very well indeed.

Thanks conty for clearing that up; so not the MS HD one then - a plated and treated MK one. As you say, there are a lot of plated sockets available now, even cryogenically treated ones.

No extra gizmo's or quantum rearranging, just a very well constructed unit with exceptionally good surface contact area plus a solid grip of the plug. Three times industry standard of plating of Coherrent proprietory metaurgical material finished off with a cryogenic 72 hour treatment Is that not the new socket that MS HD Power are doing (I see you sell them)? This one in fact: www.mshdpower.com/products_p.html?category=ep&class=WallSocket&oem=2&xml=9296rhk&model=MS-9296RHK fits your description exactly (thick rhodium plated, high tension contacts, 72 hour cryogenic etc) £90.00. The silver plated version is £50.00 (doesn't have the cryogenic treatment as far as I can see).

I heard them at that show too Jerry and I thought they were probably making the best sounds there. I think at that time the bass driver was powered by an internal amp and this has now been designed out (could be wrong on that).

Yep, that's right. I was really rather disappointed with how these speakers performed this year and thought they were much better the previous year (same room, same positioning, but completely different source and amplification).

The pro amp I use on my bass drivers is 300 WPC into 8 Ohms and 600 into 4; it has LED indicators that flash if driven into clipping ( Lab.gruppen IPD1200).

Martin, so what exactly is the problem you think could be power amp related? Is it a congestion/blurring of choral voices at higher volume levels? If so, I'm not saying it isn't power amp related but it could also be a room reflection issue or the crossover coils saturating.

What forum is completely uncensored? What would be the role of moderators?

Guy, have you bumped your head or just desperate beyond belief to score some points? Nothing wrong with an 'off topic' section - it's not called the 'let's talk politics' section though......

The attempted accusation of 'selfish' ad hominem is more than a little ironic given the posters forum history.

No one is forced to read anything - obviously. 'Losenotaminute' asked for other people's opinions and I gave mine. It's up to the forum owners and moderators whether they implement this idea.

Similarly, I'm not clear why you are keen to discuss politics - is there not sufficient opportunity already existing (I see you already do so on the AoS forum)? Do 'current affairs' forums have a separate section to discuss music and HiFi?

I'm sure you do disagree though it's difficult to see which part of my previous post can be contradicted. This is a forum set up with intent of discussing music and HiFi and there are many other forums on which people can discuss politics (or current affairs as you refer to it). If you don't find the content of the forum interesting (which rather begs the question why you joined in the first place) then contribute something - if you don't have anything music or HiFi related to contribute then perhaps you are in the wrong place. What gives me 'the right' is you - you asked for people's opinions and I have given you mine. Just because it doesn't fit with your wishes doesn't mean your free speech is being denied and nor are you being oppressed.

Surely a HiFi and music forum is for the discussion of such, not current affairs (politics). If people want to discuss politics there are plenty of alternative platforms on which to do so.

The new deck was in response to a request from ourselves and other world wide distributors made in relation to a brand new design for the 21st century. Oracle may have possible thoughts regarding the Alexandria in the future. A case of wait and see. A prototype was shown at the Montreal Audio show a couple of months ago, Oracle did not mention to anyone they were exhibiting the Origine, by the end of the show a significant number of these decks had been ordered. I'm not surprised, it does look smart.

. I guess this is a replacement to the Alexandria? It has quite a different look to previous Oracles's - do you think we will see this style spread to their other model(s)?
