Got headphones and sansa clip today. Bit of a mix up with amazon but came good in the end. The Soundmagics are very good indeed, I usually use superlux in earphones or a cheapish pair of senns. The headphones sound pretty neutral to my ears, probably the best in ears I have tried. I listen to cans quite a bit and as said before they very well made/loads of ear cups supplied/well isolated (when you rub or bump the cable it doesn't translate as a bump to your ears).Dare say they will settle down as I get a few hours on them-as is they sound very good.I haven't tried any expensive in ear phones (my sons shure ones are pure pish) but bang for buck I would happily recommend them to others.

Beresford DACs both as the centre of a digital set up but also a headphone rig. Superlux headphones from in ear/closed/open/semi. The ICs Gary mentioned are the best I have tried so far. T amps- I love my Temple monos but my original bantum is a keeper. Battery power...for vfm sound upgrade getting off the grid has been the biggest jump for the least outlay I have done. Tisbury audio pre amp-spec it to your requirements/affordable/sounds fantastic. Lap top-all your digital music/radio/spotify at the touch of a button.
With a bit of know how you can put together a great hi fi without breaking the bank!

For me technology moves on and bang for buck we can achieve great music for an affordable prices....this is brought about by forums like this one were members share experience, knowledge and skill only for others to benefit from greater enjoyment of they're music. The generosity and support of the hi-fi community is boundless, hopefully we can encourage the next generation to enjoy music replayed well.

I have had TA monos and mini ts velcroed to my spendors for a couple of years without any detrimental effect I can detect. Long ICs and battery power. Makes for a nice clean set up with only the dac/pre and v-link on show. Steve confirmed my front end should work well with Frugals. The bespoke aspect has been a real selling point and has great to get my good ladies input and approval.

Steve estimates 4 weeks build time so they should be run in by then, all going well. Steve offered to run the cable straight off the driver so that I can wire direct to my amps cutting out connections and letting me not worry about speaker wire. My intention is to velcro my TA mono blocks to the rear of the speaker and run long interconnects. It has been great having choice and consultation regards every aspect of the build. I am looking forward to getting them up and running.

I went for the polished birch/cream textured leather and the coper coloured drivers. Light and bright rather than another big black lump.

My 63s are in need of some tlc, they will be tucked away till then. My Spendor SP1s are keepers, my son managed not to bite my arm off when I offered him guardianship of them. I look forward to getting a pair of speakers to my own spec in my front room, my good lady was happy to have some input-win/win.

Will do Martin. They need about 250hrs to settle down so I will give them and me some time to get settled in.

I have read about these speakers for quite a while and they have intrigued me. I don't have the technical skill to build them myself so e mailed Steve to see what's what. They seem to tick all the boxes for me so will order a pair. The choices of finishes and ability to tune them to your room set up is a real boon. 6-8 wks build time, if members are interested I can post up my findings.

In my experience everything that flows current makes a difference. I have phonosophie fuses in my mains set up....one feeding the balanced mains and one on each electrostatic speaker.I trust my ears to a point-years riding motorbikes don't help. My son of twenty and wife aren't hi fi hobbiest like myself but love music as I do-make changes and get a second opinion. I did it with fuses and both concluded that the fancy fuses made an improvement. I feel that getting the best infrastructure cable/mains wise lets you gets the most out of what you have without breaking the bank swapping major components. Most of my listening is off the grid on battery but taking control and making the most of what comes out of the wall with what you can change/improve is money well spent to enjoy yer tunes!!!

Yes. I have just tried some on the 2 week trial system. It didn't work well in my system, but Graham has mentioned pion his Forum that he is thinking of doing a larger cross sectional area version for system that require higher power. mmm......what did do wrong/right. I know its system/ears/room/music dependent but just out of interest your experience would be valuable.

TQ ultra black is ruthless with shite recordings-fatiguing was probably the wrong description. It gives you warts and all with little colouration I can detect. It is by some margin the best speaker wire I have tried in my set ups.
I was wondering if anyone had tried the graham slee cable it seems to get some very favourable write ups?

I use two original mini ts as mono blocks.I use gotham y splitters on the phonos and y configured speaker cable. Both battery powered-bit of cheating really but it sounds pretty good and manages to cope better driving difficult speakers.

I run jumper length speaker cables so can experiment for not too much moola...I have TQ Ultra black which is very revealing and in my system slightly fatiguing-it sounds very hi-fi(honest). My favourite alternative is doubled up runs of TQ black-its more natural sounding and musical at the detriment of a slight loss of detail and sound stage. I have no shame in using cables as tone controls!!! TQ blue is sold off the reel and has the same house sound as black but again is further down the scale sonically.
The budget cables talk/belkin/rhodium twist/van damme are all good but can be bettered. Dare say synergy will have a big say, oh and your preference regards distortion.

Stan linked to it on AOS. It was a camcorder battery pack just over £20 if memory serves. Also worked very well powering an original bantum.

Bill, I use a BM2 in conjunction with a 140ah car battery. Stan sent me a battery optimised chip that improved the sound for very little money. Might be worth contacting Stan? The budget battery pack Stan recommended for the BM2 works well but I prefer the big car battery-I think it sounds more dynamic and less polite. The caiman 2 did indeed sound very good in my set up but I feel the BM2 has great synergy with my system and preferred cans.

Look forward to a get together...shifts allowing! Always good to get another opinion regards the sound of your system. Had a bit of a swap with speaker wires to find a balance between the two set ups we listened to.
