My speaker arrived today, boy oh boy am I happy. Steve had kept me updated along the way but the four weeks was well worth the wait. I will start a fresh thread and have a go at getting some photos.

Tried my big sony av amp with my 63s running an active sub into the mix, just as an experiment!!! Sounded pure pish/my good lady said it was like the Jurassic park soundtrack-----youve got to at least try some things?

My goal is trying not to listen to the hi-fi and enjoying the music...its took me ages, but Im getting there. System synergy with your room and music is the holy grail.

My experience is very similar, as my hi fi has improved a lot of recordings I had written off as poor are now far more listenable and enjoyable.

Steves speakers seem to respond well to top notch kit, this was echoed in the hi fi pig review. I have a selection of amps that intend to play with to see whats what. My set up is rather modest component wise but produces a very enjoyable noise to my ears in my room- Im really looking forward to getting them home and putting some hours on them.

I will occasionally browse the mags in wh smith...the prices of components make my eyes water. WHF serves as a rough guide for richer sounds purchases that have been pretty good for me on a limited budget.

take a look at my woodwork and let me know.....

Steve has given me a wee progress update...the woodwork is finished!!! I was given the option of different end finishes-the edge of the wood either highlighting the ply construction or linear with the exterior. I plumped for the ply finish because to me it looked nicer/more organic. My good lady bought a lovely TV rack for the front room a couple of years ago-lo and behold it has the same finish and near as dammit colour. Ive stripped my hi-fi back in preparation for them-minimalist set up with maximised sound!!!

A little experimentation with the different sized plugs was quite interesting, the wrong size can really effect the music. I seem to have big lugs as the largest plugs with the double flange sounded best to me. I'm surprised at the quality of music these in ears can produce.

Yes, all my files are ripped lossless. I have converted stuff in the past to WAV the sansa clipp has taken that no problem.

Tried the soundmagics with my headphone rig... laptop/v-link/bm2 on battery power very impressive indeed. My usual cans are senn 650s with the foams removed, the soundmagics hold their own. I havent yet tried the different supplied ear cups-will have a play.

Behringer a500 amp loads of wallup for minimal outlay, can be used as a mono block. Also the uc202 its a usb dac that can also act as an optical/co-ax convertor it also has an inbuilt headphone amp-not the last word in sonics but fantastic VFM. Both could serve as a very cost effective file based system with suitable speakers and wires-ideal for student/teenager applications.

Brian's ICs are VFM the best I have had in my system. I run 6m on one side and 2m on the other, Its nice to get bespoke cables to suit your needs. I ran through the hierarchy of Mark Grant cables and will hold onto them as VFM/sound quality they are superb. Brian has dipped his toe in the water with USB again it saw off my Furatech.

Thanks. Cant help but think it would make a very cost effective dac/head amp. I have a uc 202 which is a crackin bit of kit for the money. The studio stuff is no nonsense sound making equipment, if you can ignore the aesthetics great things can be had for minimal outlay.

I would be interested to hear the results of that comparison. Just out of interest, have you tried the headphone out and if so how did you rate it. My son utilises two Berhinger a500 amps to good effect-blow yer bloody doors off!!

Located the files as Gordon directed and tried to send albums to the sansa clip. The bar runs for the file transfer but the sansa is not getting it, Im thinking the codec is a non starter and I may have to convert to WAV. Feck!!!
