My system in its current guise doesn't seem to like silver IC plugs. Brian let me try his cables with silver MS plugs...a wee bit fast and aggressive/focused on the the top and mid, losing warmth and soundstage.
The cables I plumbed in were happily in situ with 63s and Spendor SP1s.....BUT-what I wrote off as sibilance with vocal recordings was resolved with the different metallurgy. Synergy methinks!!!!

Thanks Brian, looking forward to wiring up the whole shebang with the new configuration of the 5000s. The cabling Im using as a stopgap betweem pre and mono block is no slouch but not quite right. The silver wbt plugs just seem to introduce an element of treble harshness which wasn't present before=bit annoying to be honest.

Aye,spot on. Hope Brian doesnt think I took the piece out his mouth. The different wiring configuration is a palpable step up. I was relieved you guys were no bullshit honest with me. Im happy, listening to a lot of music and less hi-fi. Just good fun playing with different set ups and wires-great tunes!!! ( JM sounding majik)
If I grow a pair I might have to commission an idiot proof server, the computer side of things brings me out in a sweat!!!

No worries, yer always welcome. Reckon the Frugels might tick a few of your boxes. Consensus was they sit a happy meduim between the spendors and statics with the openness of OBs. They will never do the the bass of Garys edingdales but in my room and set up they work really well. The only thing they want for is more hours!

Had Brian and Gary across yesterday, always good to get another set of ears to help set things up. As it was only minor tweaks positioning wise let us really fine tune the sound. Gary let me try a number of new cables he has been working on, great fun and good company-very enjoyable way to spend an afternoon.

Wonky, any chance of a link to the cable. I have long thought about upgrading my cable but there is a bamboozling aray at some eye watering prices. I run a grado extension that lets me use the cans in the front room to listen to movies but recently rejigged my music set up letting me take the extension out- to my surprise the original cable sounds better. I really need about 5m in length so the after market ones can really get a bit salty money wise. I might pester Brian to make me something up with Klotz cable and report my findings.

I run 650s without the foams, I regard it as similar to removing speaker grills. The criticisms levelled at 650s for being a bit dark are resolved with this simple reversible mod.

Really nice speakers Tony, look forward to hearing them soon. Bit of a change looks wise in the man cave? Nice! John Martin is ready and waiting for next time... Speaker run in time? Had my Edingdale speakers for just over a year now and recently Brian and I both noticed that the speakers had really opened up. Can take a while, if they sound great just now your in for a treat as time goes on. Gary, How you fixed this Friday me and Brian have pencilled in a wee sesh, would appreciate another set of ears to optimise positioning- will get the cakes in!!!!

Had a quick dalliance with TQ UB Steves wiring seems to shade it giving a more even, open presentation....

More similar to my statics than the spendors-degrees of excellence...

Ali, Sound wise Its early days but from memory the they have a similar presentation to your OBs, the separation and subtlety is similar. Im going to need some hours on them to settle down and a bit of help from the usual suspects to optimise positioning. When I think they are ready a bit of objective help from the troops is in order. Sorry I missed the last get together-was keen to hear some JM on vinyl!!!

The Frugels seem to be settling in nicely. Steve gave me the option of wiring directly to the drivers or utilising the binding posts, it would be rude not to experiment with some wires. I wired in some TQ ultra black, seems to work very well---with my statics and spendors the treble could sometimes be a tad bright. My bugbear is sibilance on female voices, this combo works very well. Nice overall balance with uber detail and rock solid sound stage. Early days but they have reached and breached my sonic expectations.

I received my speakers yesterday, plumbed them in and got listening..... Steve Jay the man behind Electricbeach has made something rather special for me. Check out his website and the review on HI FI pig to get some background. I had long read Steve's posts on AOS about horn speakers and had really appreciated what he had set out to do with the aesthetics of the speakers and the integration into real living environments. My wife is very tolerable regards Hi fi being a music lover but a pair of 63s on Spendor castor stands was really pushing things and to be honest an eyesore. At the end of the day its all about enjoying music, so I thought the Frugals might well tick a lot of boxes for me. I run close coupled temple audio mono blocks, velcroing them to the speaker utilising jumper length speaker wires with long interconnects. My set up is off the grid powered by a large car battery-solar charged. A bit unconventional but very pleasant to listen to. Steve offers a wealth of information, keeping you posted with the progress of the build/sending pictures/set up options/positioning/finish/after-care....Its a bespoke service with every aspect catered for-really refreshing actually. None of this counts for shit if they don't produce the sonic goods-they do and then some!!! Steve warned me they would need some running in and would be sub optimal out of the box.....out of the box they resigned my Spendor SP1s to my sons set up. I had kept the Spendors near at hand just in case-no need. When you plumb something in that is just right you are reticent to move an inch....I placed the Frugels roughly where I thought they would work-they did. Synergy plays a crucial role regards room/kit/music-Steves creations have seemlesley integrated into my world producing the best noise I have heard in my listening room.
