Me too, the Joan Armatrading is especially fine. I only have one - David Sancious – 'The Bridge' Yes, I have that as well as, inter alia, the eponymous Joan Armatrading and Miles Davis's 'Kind of Blue'. A friend of mine had a 'supercut' pressing of Pink Floyd's 'Wish You Were Here' (an offer made by a different audio magazine: I think it might have been either Hi-Fi News, or Hi-Fi for Pleasure). He recently sold it on Amazon for about £100.

Hi Barry. How have you been keeping? That's a nice eclectic mixture, up to your usual standard! Hi Chris, Thanks - I thought it was about time I posted something; just to let you know I'm still alive and kicking.

Do you have that Coryell as a Nimbus pressing, Barry? Yes I do Martin. I think they were being offered by Practical HiFi magazine. I bought several, couldn't really afford them at the time, but I'm glad I did - many of them now fetch high prices on Amazon or eBay.

All this talk of placebo and expectation bias are just smoke and mirrors. It's quite possible to evaluate a change properly without bias or expectation if you set your mind to just listening to the music. As to being ripped off, see here. Yes it's possible, but can be difficult unless one returns to the status quo after say a week of having listening to the change. Many so-called improvements are just that: a "change", different but not an overall improvement.

I bought a pair of these from Bax. They are slightly different from the leads shown: the cable is Klotz AC106 and the plug housings have a shiny, polished and (IMO) more 'blingy' finish, rather than the semi-matt finish shown. Nevertheless I'm happy with them. I need them to connect to an SME M2-12R arm with horizontal RCA sockets: the total thickness of the armboard, turntable chassis and top of the plinth is such that there isn't enough room for the horizontal-fitting plugs. The cables are very flexible - essential if used as arm leads. Incidently the AC106 has a slightly lower capacitance per unit length than AC104. The leads are 1.5m long and I measured 150pF plug to plug, which suggests ~93pF/m (within the quoted specification of <95pF/m). AC104 has a quoted capacitance of <115pF/m.

I think, in order to gain the best attendance, the Thames Valley / M4 corridor offers the best access to everyone in the south? Otherwise, it really is south-east centric, excluding members from the south-west unless they want a very long journey? Just trying to get the location generally agreed before looking for a venue. In that case I might be up for it, and bring along some gear. When is it likely to be held?

Marmite: The new UK currency reserve Bob Dylan receives the Nobel Prize For Literature I'm stocking up: the way the pound is plummeting, I ought to get an exchage rate of £5 a jar! Why did the Noble commitee not name him as Robert Zimmerman? - not that it makes any difference. Has anyone asked him "How does it feel ....?"

Whats not to like?
Far cheaper than the cheapest arm and cartridge combination. All parameters are adjustable on the fly: effective 'arm length'; overhang; offset angle; VTF; VTA; bias, and azimuth.
And perfect for 'mono' reproduction.

Were it me, I would like to have an isolation switch fitted between the Henley block and the distant CU. Or is there one where the grey coloured tails, seen leaving the meter enclosure, join the black armoured cable seen in the second photo feeding the Wylex CU?
Also, I'm not sure a permanently attached 'flying' mains lead would be satisfactory as regards insurance.

2/5 from me: over 40 (by some margin), and wear glasses (which I have done since age 14).
But I don't wear a sportsjacket with leather arm patches, nor wear corduroy trousers, a Vyella shirt, or Hush Puppies. I do drive a Rover though!

The marketing for CD was too good for it to fail. I remember hearing one of the first Sony players in the country. Sounded horrid. Sound quality was only *said* to be wonderful That would have been the CD 100 - and yes, it did sound awful. So did the CD 101. It wasn't until the advent of the CD 104 that, IMO, CD playback became acceptable (just!). The 104 was superbly well made - it is said that Philips underpriced them and failed to make a profit. The compact design cosmetics of the 104 had its drawbacks: it looked good, but the high component density, coupled with the pitifully inadequate heat sinking, meant there were long-term reliability problems. Still it was a start .....

.... just make your own electricity with solar or wind " the sun never sends you a bill " But the sun doesn't always shine, nor the wind blow. And where do I put all those accumulators, so I can listen to my system after dark?

Let's hope he disconnects all equipment in his house that use SMPS, otherwise his investment in a personal distribution transformer is somewhat wasted.
