Well it doesn't get any simpler than this:
Some people will think EVs are the bee's patella. Others won't.

Not an accurate or true representation of the facts. Firstly the interviewer makes quotes at the start which are old news and up to 2 years old so a slanted biased start. Secondly most EV batteries from major manufacturers are warranties for 6-8 years and up to 100k mile, Kia I think may be 10. There are several Teslas in the world, that which have been verified, whoch have done over 300k miles and are still going on the original battery. Hydrogen power in cars is smoke and mirrors, very costly and unless produced with green electric to split water it is a very dirty process. Bio/eco fuels are petro/chemical industry clinging on to gain maximum profit. Again a very dirty process and when burnt creates co2, what a joke. Toyota is pushing their hydrogen car in Aus, but then they have built a plant their making it from coal, a filthy process that has lots of nasty by products including methane, they then ship it to Japan. They did this to move their co2 production away. People need to report that facts not inaccurate stuff If she doesn't want to take the business risk she sees with EVs, that's her choice. It's not as if she doesn't want to; she says this in the video, and, having some history in the sector, I would have thought she would know what she was talking about. And she's not alone as the caller at the end of the video indicates. And if there's an increasing number of EV owners wanting to ditch them, and move back to ICE, as she says, what's the reason for it? It would be interesting to find out how many members of the cabinet have an EV. And Sadiq Khan would rather stick to his 5 litre Range Rover. A (once) enthusiastic EV owner. Well he did buy one for £120,000:

Can't quite follow his logic. If, for example, you can't hear the difference between say a £200 amplifier and a £1000 amplifier, you have £200 hearing, and so buying the £1000 amplifier would be a waste of money. Fair enough. But what if a group do the comparison and all can't hear a difference, does that mean they all have £200 hearing - or is it simply because there's no discernable difference between the two amps?

RIP Paul Messenger I cannot count how many reviews and articles of his I have read over the years I was thinking about him just recently. Editor of Hi-Fi Answers before Keith Howard. Preferred the Fons CQ30 to a LP12 at one point. Sad news. I was wrong. Actually, it was Paul Benson that was editor before Keith Howard. Paul M did use a Fons in favour of the Linn, however.

RIP Karl Wallinger, songwriter, World Party frontman and Waterboys member. Karl Wallinger, the Welsh-born musician who played on hits including The Waterboys' The Whole of the Moon, has died aged 66. OBITI've just heard this on Clive Anderson's Loose Ends. Didn't realise he was about my age; thought he was younger. And Steve Harley as well.

Just for kicks, I thought I'd try a small CD player from AliExpress as a transport so that I can occasionally play CDs in my collection. It's never been a burning need as so few are now missing from streaming, but as you know, I like to play and experiment. So this small device costing peanuts (how do the Chinese do it?) arrived and I set to getting it to work. It needs 5V via USB-C so I used the charger for this tablet, just plugged into dirty mains. I found a decent 1m optical cable and connected it to the DAC. It sounds a bit rough compared with streaming but also it's not half bad. Musical memory is not to be trusted, but I would say it's around the performance of my old Ayre SACD player. Inferior transport meets much better DAC (but none of the benefits of cleaning the signal first). Treble a touch clunky but the midrange is fine and the bass not too light. For £60 inc. shipping and VAT, it was worth the discovery. Nearly suggested that a while ago when I saw it. But thought maybe it wasn't really what you might be looking for.

Just wary about the operating voltage (220V/230v). Mine's typically 243V.

A year ago I got a Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G from iD (Curry's/Three/Carphone Warehouse). The sound quality was the most... unusual I've had from a phone. The bass was the most obvious for it's solidity and sense of texture. Fine. Top end however was really muted. I did try the what'sitthing burn in track a couple of times, which did help, but the balance was still less than ideal. The oddest thing though was the midrange. Decades ago I remember reading reviews where a component was described as having a "lumpy" midrange. I never knew what this meant as it was something I'd never encountered myself. Well, the midrange on the Note 11 Pro sounded just that - lumpy. It was pretty weird. Anyway, luckily after a few weeks it all sorted itself out and it's the best sounding phone I've had so far. I marvel at the sound emanating from the speakers thinking back to that from a pocket radio from the 60s with a speaker about 3" in diameter. Never had much interest in games. When I had a Nokia 5800 I did have a few with my favourite being Mystery Mansion Pinball. Thought the graphics & sound clips a hoot. Really disappointed it wasn't available on Android. Late last year however, found a Java emulator let's you play such games on Android, and I still find it entertaining, more than a typical Android pinball game. You can still download it here: phoneky.co.uk/games/?id=j3j595There's a link to an emulator too, but I got one from Google Play Store which worked better.

Composer Laurie Johnson, who provided some of Britain's best loved television themes and film music, has died at the age of 96. Johnson's memorable themes include The Avengers, The Professionals, Animal Magic, and This is Your Life. OBITNever heard anything on the radio. Started my interest in TV themes and incidental music, with The Avengers. Edwin Astley, Ron Grainer and John Barry followed.

There was a time when I wasn't a fan of live albums, preferring the perfection of a studio album. At some point sanity prevailed.
My top 3. I was plugging the top one, a loan voice in the wilderness, back when I was at AOS many moons ago now, after I heard the VHS tape. It will always be top of my list:
Roy Orbison: A Black And White Night
Zucchero: Live In Italy
Louis Prima/Keely Smith: Live From Las Vegas

Three things I'd like to try would be a valve for each channel rather than just the one for both. Decoupling them from the chassis on rubber mounts. Chokes in the power supplies. Decades ago Musical Fidelity introduced choke regulated power supplies in their power amps. Common place in valve designs, but unique for transistor ones.
