My first as it stopped me in my tracks earlier
Cinematic Orchestra - Every Day
I only mean *stunningly* well made - not albums you love for the music, not the good ones either There will be degrees of greatness.
What albums stop you in your tracks, for the production / engineering and flatter your system ? The ones that sound very good on a budget system, go to the highest point on a good system.
Most or all Faithless are very well made, but I wonder if they come up to the level of 'Every Day' A bake off for production quality to come sometime ?

I had a listen to a high res flac of Time Out - The Dave Brubeck Quartet the other day and was blown away with how good it sounded. You can pinpoint all the instruments and the recording quality is amazing! Hell, I don't even like jazz!

I find 'music I don't like' becomes very listenable when it is made so well
I don't like Jazz but I'd listen to and enjoy that

Also - on vinyl - Bert Kaempfert's A Swinging Safari is astoundingly well produced and sounds similarly vivid.

Can't really answer this one, as I don't listen to music this way.

From this year, I've been particularly impressed with 'Forward Escape' by Tipper - a production masterclass. Obviously a YT clip can't do it justice, but all the same:

Can't really answer this one, as I don't listen to music this way. I was unprepared. Put it on, working away, had to stop, wow this is so good Didn't go looking (listening) for it, just grabbed me

45rpm of Hope by Hugh Masakela. Stunning recording. Dave Cawley played me that on a couple of occasions. Agreed, it sounds amazing.

I've bought a copy of the SACD copy to replace the downloaded version I was listening to.
What are the vinyl re-issues of this album like?

Deep Purple Two nominations Machine Head one of the best sounding 'real' albums period. Made in Japan How depressing. I owned both once, a couple of my earliest LP's at school - and can no longer find them. My brother has a lot to answer for Whilst it is far from perfect technically, a favourite of mine for that "in the room" realism, is Joan Armatrading. "Love and Affection" is a reference track when auditioning.
