Whilst it is far from perfect technically, a favourite of mine for that "in the room" realism, is Joan Armatrading. "Love and Affection" is a reference track when auditioning. Agreed!

So many - where to start? Not sure there are Steve. There may be, but I'm not often stopped dead by the music quality as I was when I started this off. Haven't done comparisons of one stunningly good against another. Difficult as well as subjective. To add to the mix there will be degrees of good. Mix in how we feel today compared to yesterday and we may find a different feeling Listening to my favorites of all time albums ..... Caravan - For girls that grow plump in the night Keef Hartley - Halfbreed Both 11 out of 10 for the music, well made, but, say 7/10 for the production/engineering

Anything with Bernie Grundman at the controls. For example, the 20th Anniversary remaster of Jennifer Warnes' Famous Blue Raincoat. Absolutely superb for a CD.

I've never heard "virtually" by Steely Dan. Is that one any good then? I played a bit of "Gaucho" to Sovereign when he popped in just now, just to prove I was only kidding

Gaucho and Aja are both crackers and definitely stunningly well made.

From this year, I've been particularly impressed with 'Forward Escape' by Tipper - a production masterclass. Obviously a YT clip can't do it justice, but all the same: That sounded good even on my phone I imagine all those electronic clicks and squelches would sound awesome on vinyl through my TT
